Stolen Buddy Recovered!

Post by pocphil »

After 3 months and purchasing a new Buddy 50, this owner finally got a call that the scooter was recovered by the police. We went over and picked it up at the impound lot where we had to pay a $10 release fee. While it was there we saw 2 other scooters that we know were purchased at our shop. We've made efforts to contact the owners of those scooters.

The Stolen Buddy 125 has travelled over 3241miles, in UNDER 3 months!
The Ignition was drilled out more than anything I've ever seen before.
A Stereo/CD Player has been installed and wired to a single speaker put in the cupholder in the glovebox.
There was a 12 Volt tire inflator and a tube of slime in the underseat storage area along with a few tools.
Every panel on this thing is damaged.
The rear hub/rim is severely dented.

Here's the good news;

It runs perfectly
The battery is completely dead, and the ignition is jammed in the on position, but the killswitch works fine and the kickstarter fires it up in one kick.
The brakes work great
All of the lighting works correctly
The tire is managing to hold air despite the bent rim and nearly bald tread.
Obviously it has never gotten an oil change, but the oil in the gearbox still looks and smells good.
There was a lock and chain in the glovebox, showing that the theif clearly cared for this scooter more than the guy he stole it from.

This thing has clearly suffered as much abuse as you can throw at a scooter. It still works perfectly. I think this is a real testament to the durability of the Buddy scooter.

That thing looks like it took a tremendous beating. Maybe there's a new slogan for Genuine in this like that old Timex slogan "Takes a lickin and keeps on tickin."

Ooh, man. I'm glad the owner's getting the Buddy back, and I'm glad to hear how well it's holding up. But I'd be heartbroken if my Buddy got so beat up.

Aw, c'mon...that's the wrong attitude! You look at it as the PERFECT opportunity to create a total "rat" scoot! After all, it still runs perfectly!

I think you all missed the point - the owner of the pictured scoot is still out of contact. Question is ... if my scoot was stolen, and my insurance had already paid for its replacement ... would I even want to claim the beast in the police impound?

The owner of this scooter has been contacted, in fact they had NO INSURANCE at the time of the theft. So, they will be paying to have the scooter repaired out of their own pocket. They were supposed to show up today to discuss what we could do for them as we have many only "slightly damaged" body parts in our inventory that could be installed on this scooter and save the owner much $$$.

On the same note; Modern Buddy Member Mandelia - GET IN TOUCH WITH ME IMMEDIATELY!!! Your stolen Orange Buddy is sitting in the Cleveland Police Impound lot. I can not recover it without your title or permission.

It looks pretty good, certainly not as bad as this one. I'd venture to say for a couple hundred bucks it could be 100%. Don't let it get sold in a police auction as scrap (that's what they do to unclaimed vehicles here in Cleveland).

that's right. i'd love a scooter i didn't worry about bustin up. i bet the price is right too.
to know that buddy can take that kind of abuse and still run well is comforting too.
