Variator and clutch tuning on 50cc 2 stroke

Post by brianwheelies »

Ladies and Gents,

I have a Rattler 50 and am trying to get the transmission dialed in. I have installed several different sets of sliders and rollers plus the 1000rpm torque spring but still have this problem where the bike gets to 30ish mph and it bogs down because it is going into too tall of a gear. Also, if I brake from 40+mph and drop down to anything in the 20 to 40mph range and get back on the throttle, it takes forever to get back to 40+mph due to being stuck in too tall of a gear.

What steps do I need to take to get the gearing to be more responsive and not fall down in that midrange speeds. Also, in order to make it move semi decently through the midrange speeds I need to run too light of a slider which has the rpms past the powerband below 20mph.

Any help?

Sounds to me like you need a heavier spring to keep the "rear" pulley from locking up to soon...If I read what is going on correctly. So hard to tell without riding it

If it is leaving hard (good rollers)then locking out and staying there the spring is too light...
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

I was hoping I wouldn't have to go to a stiffer spring. Just going to the 1000rpm spring is causing my belt to wear quicker. Will a stiffer spring allow the bike to get shorter gearing when slowing down instead of being stuck in the higher gear?

I was hoping a new variator and clutch was available to give me the drive-ability and efficiency without going through belts so quickly.
