Cool, I guess the superconductor aligns with the magnetic field, and the particles polarity remains aligned with the field as the magnet is moved. Nifty. :D

Cool! Thanks.

Although that scooter would be mighty cold on your arse.

Now all we have to do is to apply small scale nuclear fission reactions at the back and we will have a rather fast hoverboard 8)

Add tomato sauce and mozzarella, and you've got a frozen pizza that delivers itself.

I've had a little experience with riding a frictionless scooter :whew: and I don't recommend it.

"However, when cooled below -185ºC (-301ºF) the material becomes a superconductor. It conducts electricity without resistance, with no energy loss. Zero."

I suppose covering most of the planet in powerful magnets then cooling down everything that needs to move, including my Pumas, to -185°C would be bad for the environment. Damn, we just can't win.

OK, I think I may have a way to do this. Note that only the superconductor needs to be cooled (until we have practical high temperature superconductors) in order to be "locked" in the magnetic field. The Earth has a magnetic field. Levitation anyone? Minor annoyance that you can only move along an east/west line, and can't follow terrain, so you'll want to keep to very flat plains.

By the way .... Craig Vetter has a proposal for an "X-Prize" type contest to develop a practical air-scooter: http://craigvetter.com/pages/Motorcycle ... rules.html
