Holiday without the Buddy

Post by lilguy »

Does the scooter need to be winterized if I'm heading out of town for the holidays for 2 weeks? Should I take out the battery, run a fuel additive, etc.? I do have a vented scooter cover which will be wrapped snugly.

I was out of town for about a month during October and didn't do a thing to my bike. Fired right up when I got back. You should not have a problem with 2 weeks of scooter rest.

Assuming the battery is generally in good condition, it should be OK if left for a couple weeks. Same with the fuel, etc. Heck, I routinely leave my car sitting unused for two weeks at a time. :)

IF you have some fuel stabilizer I would go ahead and run soem through before leaving it. Otherwise I wouldnt worry about it.

Two weeks shouldn't be a problem but is it parked outdoors, on the street? I'd be more worried about theft!

Considering how cold it can get in Boston, you may want to hook it up to a tender. I ride every weekday. This Monday morning, temp reading 23F, and even with the battery on a tender beginning Sunday afternoon, it took some serious cranking to get it going (as did I!). If you were in a milder climate, I'd say, no problem. But it gets damn cold up here, especially at night.

If you cover it, just put a cheap lock through the eyelets if the cover has them. wonderful detterant, and it keeps the cover from blowing away.

for 2 weeks you should be okay on battery and fuel...As long as you are sure you will run it when you get back.

If you can lock the scoot to something while you are gone.

Can you bring it indoors? I once parked my Buddy in my living room when I was away for 2 weeks.

I put down cardboard when I bring my scooter indoors for the winter, for this reason.

Ha, no. It's a very well trained little scooter. I took it out for a long ride before I left so it could lower its fluids. But it sure was eager to get out of the house for a run around when I got back!

If you catch your scoot in the act, rub its front tire in it.

A firm 'NO' will suffice, but only if you can catch it in the act. If you don't catch 'em in the act, no matter what you do it won't have the effect you need, and they'll just look up at you with those sad deadlights and make you feel guilty.

There is a cat that sleeps on my scooter every night. About 30 minutes after I park and lock my scoot, the xena alarm usually goes off because the cat climbs under the cover and onto my scooter.
