(kinda eww) riding position/discomfort?
disclaimer: kind of embarrassing, kind of gross. But I figured where else to ask....(maybe I should have made a fake account to post it <.<)
Blur tall. Me short. I think the way I'm putting my feet down when I stop is starting to affect me.
I'm not a super hairy guy or anything, but I've started to notice a few little ingrown hair bumps on my inner (but lower) thigh. Closer to my knee than to..the other side. Nothing serious about them, they're just annoying. A little unsightly, in general, to have a red bump. Once or twice slightly painful for a day. I'm used to it now and then on my neck from shaving (poorly), but it's definitely a sign of friction, right? Or that the hair is being ripped out and growing back funky?
I know you've all been DYING to figure out if I go boxers, briefs, or commando. Boxers. I notice I'm getting the irritation about where the bottom of the fabric falls.
So there's something about the way I'm moving, or how frequently I'm doing it. I don't know what sort of interactions jeans vs seat vs skin vs edge of boxers is having, but giving me lil noogies sucks.
I'm guessing it's exacerbated by the fact that I'm short, so need to stretch my leg and I'm probably rubbing against the seat as I do it. (And maybe the edge of the boxers is conversely going the opposite way against my skin, giving me like an indian arm burn or whatever?)
Any advice? The lady, with a WAY TOO EVIL GRIN, recommended I wax my legs. Not gonna happen.
Going to try being more mindful of angling my knee outwards before I start moving my leg.

Well, if you're not going to shave/wax, I guess there is only one answer...

but seriously... try talcum powder on the irritated area for a couple of days?

I know exactly what you are talking about... while I don't get the same sort of discomfort because I'm female, and I do shave my legs, I do get a bit of a rug burn type rash on my inner thighs after riding for 20 minutes or more, especially if it's stop n' go traffic.
My suggestion, like the evil grin lady, shave that part of your legs and load on some aloe vera gel afterward and see what happens. If you don't want to shave that part of your leg, because yeah, it's kinda weird, just try using some aloe vera gel without shaving, or even use some baby powder there. Generally if you're getting those awful little "noogies" (lol) it's because yes, your skin is irritated from friction, but also because your pores/follicles are clogged with oil/sweat/grimy stuff. So if you get sweaty down there I would say stick to powder, if not, try the aloe. There are even different kinds of "balm"-like products that are meant to prevent chafing and such... I don't know much about them because, well, I don't really have that problem. So maybe someone else will chime in with their experience with one of those.
Good luck!

My best riding weekend was Tucson, AZ a few years ago with 316 miles in three days and NO sore butt or anything else for that matter - great training got me there and we enjoyed the trip.
Normally don't ride 300 miles a month though!

Boxer briefs, They dont ride as much, and the bottom edge (punn intended) is a lot softer, so no aggitation.
and if you can get a lower profile seat you might not have the same irritation because your thighs wont touch the seat edges.
I'm a tall 6'5" and have no problems on a big 250cc scooter... maybe ride in heels?

Well, I'm a briefs kind of guy. My problem which mostly has happened on long rides and/or when riding 2up where the leg band catches and rubs right at the curve of the seat. My son tells me I need to try boxer-briefs, performance material suggested as well. being built like a fence post I have issues with them riding up and etc which is even more uncomfortable. My solution has been be conscious of my position on the seat and find the 'optimal comfort position' ie: posture and placement of my 'scrawney arse' on the seat!
As others have said, talc, corn starch and/or baby powder should likely alleviate the chafing issue, ingrown hairs are a bitch, sorry to hear of your plight. A 'seat shave' sounds more likely to be the best solution to the issue.
I used from time to time, until someone stole it, a gel seat pad I got in the automotive section at 'Wally-mart' for about $20.

Well, syd, I've been busy and didn't have the time to let go with "south bound" comments, retorts, innuendos, etc.Syd wrote:I can't believe this thread has gone six posts without it going south (or north in this case) to the gutter. I don't know whether to be disappointed or proud.
