first performance mod advice
Looking for some guidance / experience on the order to do certain Mods. I'm trying to stay stock with the cylinder, pipe and airbox, so the Mods I'm thinking of are:
Sliders or
variator and sliders
CDI and coil
I'm happy with the top speed, but would like to get there quicker.
Also, anyone tries the Koso variator from buggypartsnw?[/list]

I think you're confusing this with a Stella. In my experience, racing stripes are good for 5mph on a Stella, but only 3-4mph on a Buddy. That's unless it's a red Buddy, then 5mph is reasonable.neotrotsky wrote:I thought vinyl racing stripes got you 5mph extraKeys wrote:Actually, you left out one that can add up to 5 m.p.h. to your top speed...a windshield.

I'm with Scootertrash on the options given the restrictions. However, think about how/where you ride. Those changes will get you a quicker take off, but at the cost of a less relaxed ride in stop and go traffic.
In my opinion, the best single mod you can make to get better acceleration is a big bore kit. Unfortunately it's also one of the more complicated to install yourself.

I would guess that the two electrical upgrades, the coil and CDI would be ok in Texas heat? Only real sitting would be found at red lights, BUT, the freaking heat is 105+ currently.
* The CDI can cause better power output, better MPG's but the risk of overheating is a little higher in dead stop traffic during a hot day, air-cooled engine's Achilles's heel.

OK, after re-reading these threads:
topic12264.html
and
topic9140.html
I'm thinking it's a "no" to doing just the sliders without the variator and probably doing the variator, sliders, and a stronger compression spring first. Mainly because they're all available in a nice neat kit from buggypartsnw.com.
After doing those, I'll see where I'm at and consider either the CDI and coil or 1500 RPM clutch springs.
I'm looking forward to getting it done, but not to taking apart the clutch. Straightforward, but kinda a PIA.
Racing stripes though...

Cuppini mid windshield. Easiest performance mod there is!
I'm not entirely sold on sliders vs. rollers at this point. I know that's a bit heretical in some circles, but while sliders have some advantages, performance-wise I'm still undecided.

Wow, that's a first. I thought sliders were universally approved.ericalm wrote:Cuppini mid windshield. Easiest performance mod there is!

On the windshield, you may as well tell me pink tutus will make me faster. Wither way, it's not happening.
