Air filter question :)

Post by AWinn6889 »

I know people have talked about these before, but I found SO MUCH stuff in my search that I don't know what to do with it. So here goes:

1. Is the Buddy 150 air filter the same as the 170's or is there a special one for the 170 because of the EFI?
1a. If there is a special one, where do I find it?

2. I need info on how to do it/where it is... I'm sure there's a thread somewhere that I should be looking at, I just didn't see it.

I got a hold of the folks at The Daily Rider in Burlington and am taking the scoot up there for the "first service" on Saturday, really just the computer hook-up part needs to be done though since we've already done everything else. The only thing left is the air filter, so if they have them at their shop I'll pick one up, otherwise I'm ordering from Scooterworks with $8.95 shipping for a $15 part :?

Here is a thread about the air filter for a Buddy 125:
How to clean and replace air filter in 2009 Buddy 125?
topic21111.html

If you didn't get anywhere with your trip on Saturday, then this has information about the Buddy 125. I'm not sure if this is applicable to your scooter.

The 125 is slightly different, however the 150 is the same. My trip to Burlington was very informative, and my scoot is in perfect working order. Just going to check out and replace the spark plug soon, and get the new air filter in there. Couldn't have asked for a better St. Patty's Day!

Has anyone else noticed that their scoot performs better in 50*F+ temperatures?

I had a hard time getting it up to 55mph at WOT on my way up to Burlington in the morning when it was in the low to mid 40s, but once it warmed up to the mid 60s and we headed home I was going 65mph at 3/4 throttle, and even hit the low 80s going down a couple of the larger hills. The only thing the guy at the shop there did was check the codes (there weren't any) and the fuel mix, which was fine, so I know he didn't change anything that would make Serenity perform better... I just thought it was strange.

AWINN6889, When you say your Buddy 170i was going 65 was that the speedo reading or GPS. I did a check on my 170i with my GPS and 65 Buddy reading is actually 57 mph GPS, and 52 Buddy = 45 mph GPS.

GPS and Sportster speedo. For some reason my bf's speedo is right on with the GPS until you get up to like 80mph, it loses 2mph (80smph=78gpsmph), and at 90 is loses 4.... but I didn't/can't get the Buddy to go that fast anyway. A couple times now I've had it at 85bmph though (which is really about 79-ish gpsmph).
My car is about 5mph positive with it's winter wheels on, so I'm used to having a vastly different reading on my speedometer than what my actual speed is (I wish more people checked their actual speed against a GPS, dang slow people!).

Wow, nice speed numbers on your scoot, I'm jealous :D . I can barely get mine to 60bmph on a good day, once with a 40mph tailwind I got to 75bmph. I guess the silver one is faster than the green one, teehee :) .

Well it depends on what size person you are too. I'm a fairly light munchkin. Not as light right now as I was when I first got the scoot last year, but still light nonetheless. Either way, my 140-150-ish lbs are closer to the ground, and the front of the scoot. Also, I'm short and narrow, so the width of my body doesn't turn me into as much of a wind sail either. By broad shouldered, 220-ishlb, XXL helmeted bf has a hard time getting it up to 60bmph on the same freshly paved, flat road, on which I can easily travel at 75bmph.

I still have a bit of breaking in to do, but it seems to be going well, definitely improving with every few hundred miles I put on her.
