Idles to fast

Just flunked my road test, my 150 buddy won't idle down under 10 mpr. Hard time doing skills. Anyway, could this be fixed by playing with idle? Or could it be something else. Buddy has only 50 miles on it. It just started this a few days ago. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it might be too low?

The manual has the info on changing it. I've never done so myself, but the screw is under the cap in your pet carrier.

Why would it be to low when it won't idle down, seems like it is set to high.

Is it warmed up? Do you let it warm up until the auto-choke cuts off and the idle lowers?(takes a few minutes) If you want to adjust idle, open up compartment in pet carrier and its the screw facing up. Clockwise is +, counterclockwise is -. Only adjust it when its warmed up, and I only do it a quarter-turn each time and test. This may not be "totally 100% coorect" way but its worked for me.

Yes it's warmed up. I drove 6 miles avg 25-35 mph. I'll have my hubby adjust it tomorrow. Hope that is all it is, thanks. Could it be auto choke? How do u check that?

The auto-choke should open up when first started(cold) and then shut off when its warmed up(when the idle slows down). It takes 1-3 minutes. Shouldnt have to mess with it, and I would know how anyway.

Edit- Could you please explain again in detail exactly what is happeneing? I may be missing something here. And what kind of 150 do you have?

I rode my 2009 new (53 miles) genunine 150 buddy 6-8 miles to my testing site, it would not idle down under 10 mpr. So it was warmed up. I would shut engine off for a few mins, then it would be fine until I turned throddle, then it wouldn't cut down. Does it sound like a troddle adjustment?

In that case your throttle or cable may be sticking or need adjustment. It may be that once it's warm and you give it throttle, the cable isn't returning all the way and sticking open. Does it only do this after it's warmed up and been ridden or will it idle that high when cold, too?

Start it up (on the center stand, NOT side stand!) when cold, maybe after it's sat overnight. Take note of the idle. After running for a couple minutes, the idle should settle down. If so, your choke is probably fine.

It seems to be fine while warming up, then a few mins after I am riding it, it then sticks at 10 mph. I'll check in the am and get back to u. U have been very helpful, thank you. Retake test next weds. Whoohoo.

Did adjusting the idle work for you? Just wondering, as I am having the same issue with my "new" 2009.

My husband and I went for a couple of 4 miles rides today and the idle never would idle down...the only time it has idled slower was the day I picked it up at the dealer...and it actually kept dieing when it was sitting there at the dealer's (after it had warmed up).

That dealer (Kent Kawasaki) has since gone out of business, so I can't take it back and get them to check it out.

Anyhow, if adjusting your idle under the pet carrier worked, I'll give it a whirl too.

Hi, I'll let u know, it's at the dealer getting fixed. The gentleman didn't think it was anything, just a tweak or cleaning the carb
