first time scooter buyer, found this on craigslist...

Is there anything in particular i should look for when checking out this scooter? Does the price seem fair to you guys? Any tips and advice will go a long way. On the fence about buying used or new just from a warranty standpoint. Any help would be appreciated.

The Black Jack was a limited edition and aren't made anymore and with the things the poster is selling with it I'd say yeah it is. The Black Jack was built for preformance with a rock a billy theme. assuming that it has all the OG stuff that came on it, I'd say yeah. 3000 miles may seem like a lot of miles but if it was well taken care of and if you decide to buy it and take good care of it it will last much, much longer....

3k is just broken in! that;s a steal if it's in perfect condition!
I would just make sure they would let you test drive it, allowing for 'you wreck it you buy it'. But it should be in good shape.
The only thing is maybe check for rust around the chrome bits, but if it's been garaged that should be no big deal.

Sounds good. Thanks. Honestly I've been back and forth on what model i'll end up getting. For a while it was the price of the Buddy 125 that had determined my choice, but then i lusted for the feul injection of the 170i (and the oxford green) and thought "Price be damned". Then i thought i had settled on a Stella simply because of my size (I'm 6'4") and i had read Stella's can accomodate taller riders because we can sit as far back in the seat as we like. But then I saw this Black Jack for sale and now I don't know what to do.

Don't know if this will factor into your decision, but I thought the stock seat on a Black Jack was sculpted more for a single rider. You can switch it out with a different saddle like the ones on a 125 or 170i if necessary though.jeremydouglass wrote: Then i thought i had settled on a Stella simply because of my size (I'm 6'4") and i had read Stella's can accomodate taller riders because we can sit as far back in the seat as we like. Just my $0.02.
{Edit: whoops, just saw the ad where they dangle that carrot. That's not a bad deal at all then....}

As I recall, the Black Jack was 3600 retail with prep and shipping additional. That said, supply exceeded demand in late 2009 and most of 2010, so there was some serious discounting. I got mine 2 years ago and paid 3300 out the door less 1995 (what I paid new) for a 6 month old Buddy 50 trade. The Black Jack has major suspension and front brake upgrades over the 125 and I notice that one has the dealer installed Prima exhaust. It is absolutly worth the asking price and I can say from experience that you will LOVE it.
The Stella is a very different kind of ride than the Buddy. I would not think your choice would be an either/or between those two models.
I've never owned a scooter before so I'm open to whatever varying experiences the different models offer. Whatever scooter i end up with will be the experience that i have be it a twist and go like the Black Jack or something more immersive and connected-to-the-vehicle like the Stella. I know there's no comparison between the Buddy and the Stella. I'm sure I'll love whatever attributes each has to offer.

The rattler was a stopgap considering we were nearly moving into an apartment downtown with no secure parking or workspace inside. Of course, two weeks after getting this I ended up getting a deal on a house rental. This meant I could of kept my p200e and worked on it anytime I wanted. But my wife insisted on me having a 100% "reliable" bike since we cannot afford to be without two sets of wheels. Of course I also had to rebuild the engine from the previous owner. Now she thinks they are all prone to total failure.Syd wrote:I hesitate to ask, but what are you going to get yourself into this time, neo?neotrotsky wrote:Naw... No argument that different scooters each have their own charms. However, having said that - you are about to make a choice. You will need to sort out the experience you intend to have. Otherwise, how about a Vespa 300 GTS or a BMW K1300 or a Harley Superglide. All great rides of their kind. At some point you have to decide where you are headed.jeremydouglass wrote:I've never owned a scooter before so I'm open to whatever varying experiences the different models offer. I hope you bought it!
I just got my Blackjack last weekend with 200 miles on it. Of course, the day after I bought it, it snowed. I <3 Colorado!
It has been burning a hole in my garage all week, and I am so excited to go on a ride tomorrow and really break it in.
