Carb Seafoam Cleaning working?

Post by 50CC Cape Cod »

It appeared that the pilot jet is clogged. I put in a good dose of seafoam
and before was only able to keep revving the engine to keep running.
Now post dose a few days the scooter actually can idle 2-3 min before starting to chug and quit. My impression is the seafoam is working it's way through the build up. Question is when engine switches from slow jet to main jet now has a problem doing this. After the seafoam cleans will this tend to smooth out. Wanted to try the saefoam approach before tearing things apart.

Seafoam works well, BUT when you have a completely clogged jet it usually takes pulling the carb to clean it IMO...You may also have a slide sticking. Pulling the carb isn't that bad on most scoots. GET in there :)
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

On this carb you can see the slide moving up & down when you look into the throat and turn the throttle grip.
I can also hear the slide clicking down when you release the throttle grip.
I know pulling the carb is the last resort but thought would give the Seafoam a chance to liquify the most likely hardened varnish/gum from prior years. The Seafoam did the trick on another scooter but do not think was as bad a build up. I thank you for the input. Will see what happens and if take the pull the carb route could use your help then as well. Thanks.

Took Vinney's advice thanks. Wanted to help the sea-foam cleaning.
I pulled the carb flipped upside removed fuel bowl very small amount sediment. Removed the jets pilot slightly blocked flushed, guiatar string &
compressed air cleaned them both out. The main jet came out with needle jet holder. Careful putting back together started up and took a long time to get Air/fuel screw and idle scrw setting to keep running. Let it idle for an hour with more sea-foam. Today started right up and high idle. Question what is the best scew settings to use. Originally started 2 turns out from closed position on both but since difficult to keep running most likely differnt now. After clean out does not appear anything stuck does it take time for the carb to readjust itself being clean etc before can set the A/F & Idle screws?
