tuning a 50cc stage one kit...FUSTRATION

Post by lovemysan »

I'm 250lbs in Kansas city mo around 650ft elevation. 6.5 gram rollers I installed the prima pipe on my 2012 rough house last night. I jetted the carb to a 90 and pulled the airbox snorkel. I buttoned it up and cruised around around for 3-4 minutes gently. I did a quick burst to 40 mph downhill for a plug chop. The plug was dry and white. Nothing on it. So I jetted up to a 92 the biggest I had. Same thing. I tried installing the snorkel back and its a pig. With the snorkle out it comes off the line very good till about 25 ish( I think when the variator closes) then struggles from 25-35mph and the then top end perks up. I don't know where it will top out because I don't want to casue any damage but it pulls good on the high end.

I'm kinda frustrated with the local dealer they had my other 50cc bike for 3 weeks and were too busy to give it any serious attention. They stock some prima parts but they've been short on jets for weeks. I finally ordered a 85-110 from scooterworks but they didn't ship until after 5:00pm the day after I ordered which wasn't a big deal, just another added annoyance.

Patience, grasshopper. It sounds like you're doing everything right. Good luck with the jetting.

Okay, went to the dealer to try and pick up a 95 and 100 jet. Yet once again no jets available. According to the owner monday "we've got a pile of jets coming in". Today I was told the jets that came in were for stella's. I would never treat my customers this way. Some day I'd like to buy a better bike but its not going to be from there at this rate. I talked to the mechanic again and he claimed he would recommend against the prima because I'd most likely need a bigger carb to run it.

The saga continues. This process wouldn't be so stressful but the scooter rally starts tomorrow and my 59 year old dad is coming up to go on some of the big rides. He got laid off monday and I'm going to make this work for him. So.....I got my scooterworks order in and no 100 jet and somehow I didn't check off the 95 jet. Which were the ones I needed. So....after some evening research I figured out the keihin jets are available through honda. I'm headed out to pick up the k95 now.

Success of sorts. I Mixed rollers to come up with a 5.5 gram weight which took care if the slow acceleration. I up jetted to a 100. Too rich so I pulled the snorkel and cracked the air box. Still too rich. So I jetted to a 95. Still had a nasty bog from idle but had good top end. So I pulled the shin out of the needle. Still bogged. I couldn't adjust the idle mixture because it's non adjustable from the factory, shaved flat. I used o ring pics to turn it out and cut a slot so I could adjust it. Reinstalled and adjusted 1 turn out and the low end big is gone. The bike now runs good again. Throughout this process I attempted to do plug chops but there was never anything on the plug. They came out clean even when severely over jetted.
