Headlight lens tab

Post by Mousenut »

I don't know what else to call it. It's the small cylander of plastic that sticks off of the side of the headlight lens and sits in the little "ohm" shaped metal bracket between the upper and lower cowls.

After my wipe out, one of them is snapped off but the other is fine. Are they for alignment or just there to secure it into place? Can I get away with just having one of them? It's like a $70+ part and I'm skipping a few of the less needed battle scar repalcement parts wherever I can.

It's there for alignment- and they break pretty easily as you found out.

If you feel you can get the lamp into a decent alignment and keep it from vibrating out too often, I don't suppose there's any problem with not replacing it. You can also try the mod in this thread.

Yeah! "Peg" does sound like a better description than "Tab" :)

So far only day riding but when fall comes I'm sure there will be some darker rides so luckily I have some time to mod it out without rushing.

Thanks for the pointer.

After my crash I ran without one peg for a few months until I found a used headlight here for about half price. Keep watching those "parting out a..." threads in the Buy/Sell forum!

I ran with only one for two years. Since I had lost the positioning screw, the headlight bounced, which I justified as a free headlamp modulator. :P

When I finally took the headset apart, the other tab/peg was still in the "ohm" bracket, and I was able to superglue it back to the headlamp assembly without a problem.
