buddy 170i with carver surf board rack

Post by churroe »

hey all,
just wanted to share pics of my new surf board rack for my buddy 170i. i couldn't find anything about it online, so i figure it's time to put this out there.

the board fits well -- cruised over 50 mph and everything was gravy. now i can just park anywhere. i feel like a foreign dignitary with the mad vip hookup! hahaha.

Sweet ! well done. That is what we came up with years ago at my shop when a customer wanted to carry his board. You have to be careful BUT it works!

sorry, don't have pics of the assembly (got it installed at the shop), but i just had to buy the rear rack and then the surf rack.

rear rack $60
surf rack $140

kinda pricey but i'm sure it'll be worth it. especially during big swells where parking's a bitch and stuff. oh, how i wish i still lived in la with this thing. so many good breaks w/impossible parking.

Rt. 66 in Marina del Rey carries them and usually has one mounted on a demo.

So you have fun scooting to the beach, fun surfing, then fun scooting home. Kinda a win-win-win. ;)

careful with the wetsuit close to a hot pipe! I've wondered about the glass on the board - if you go far and the pipe gets hot, will it warp? Is the idea you won't have to go far?

looks like the board is held far enough away from the pipe that it wouldn't be a problem . . .

thanks. pretty stoked; though have only used it a few times since it's been so cold here (60s in the daytime, 50s at night).

can't wait till summer. the only other bummer though is that i'll probably be inclined to ride like a squid -- flip flops, shorts and nipple tassels.

It looks really cool. Be carefull in a any kind of wind. I carried my golf clubs to the course and it was pretty windy (20mph) and a bit scary at 50mph had to slow down to 40 to control the scoot. But hey very inovative nice job and have fun surfing :~).

I have a prima bag on my rear rack. Wonder if that rack attachment will render my bag obsolete... I live like 2 mins from the beach in Oceanside but would be nice to roll my 170...

Thanx

I'm not certain how your bag mounts, but here is an example of a friend of mine's scooter which has his topcase mounted on top of the carver mounting plate no prob. If your bag bungees on, then you'd just need to figure out a way to protect the bag from the mounting hardware for the Carver.

How did you manage the clubs? I was thinking of just putting the walking bag on both shoulder straps and the rain cover over the clubs so they dont fall out.

The bag mounts with quick snaps and I also have it zip tied at many points as I don't take it off. It would be nice to have this option ( ie take my scoot to surf ).

Question, when not in use, does the rack come off or do you have to leave those large "fingers" on at all time ?

Thanx
