Where are you going to Amerivespa from?

Post by cdwise »

My plan is to leave Breckenridge, CO on Sunday, June 17 and ride up in easy days through the best scenery I can find. That means the Rocky Mountain National Forest, Mt. Rushmolre, Sturgis (yeah, I know but I just feel like it is some place I should go if I'm going to be that close), The Badlands then turn east.

Anyone have suggests from there to Lake Geneva? I'm all ears.

Well it seems like I will soon be the happy owner of a new Stella so amerivespa is back on the menu for me! Coming from Richmond will take a while... gonna have to do some major planning and make sure I pack enough maintenance items.

Flying to Chicago. Oh, I'd LOVE to ride it but just don't have the time.

Figuring out how to get from there to Lake Geneva on Thursday. I think the Scooterworks guys are riding up Thursday, so I may ride with some of them.

I would love to go, but its 75 miles or so and I only have a 50cc so its about max of 40-45 mph. Anyone know of any good routes to take from Madison to get there using back roads?

75 Miles is NOTHING man! The trick is to get two tools to plan your route:

-Rand-McNally road atlas
-Google Maps.

First, type in the beginning and end points of your journey into Google maps and then select "avoid highways". This will give you the surface streets on which to look for. Then, take the road atlas of the region you wish to travel and physically compare and map out the route. This allows you to figure out the errors Google makes and to really determine if the roads are heavily traveled or lighter fare.

Then, go to roads that may be suspect about speed limits, and go to a "street view" on random portions. Most of the time you can catch a street sign that will let you know the average speed limit. I wouldn't suggest doing that for a 1,000 mile+ journey, but in your case about an hour of planning and you will have no problem!

Yeah, I could try but I know for a fact that most of those rural highways are still 55 mph and we would have to take at least 2 vehicles so we could either bring camping gear or goto a motel. Plus I work on weekends so I would have to take off part or all of Saturday if I were to stick around for the parade.

I guess this all depends on how much money and time we have to spend...

Well, if I can go it would most likely only be for Thurs & Fri since I work that weekend. The wife doesn't think $65 for two days with no meals and no lodging is worth going...ugh.

There are some meals and entertainment provided, including a big banquet. Last year's banquet alone (in New Orleans) was worth the price!

Leaving from Brooklyn NY tomorrow (Monday). Plan to arrive Chicago Fri 6/15, and leave from there for Lake Geneva Thurs. We'll be staying in Skokie, if others are riding up from Chicago...
