I just saved a bunch on my scooter insurance

Post by dalvarado »

So there I was thumbing through the Oct issue of Scoot that came with my Corazzo jacket (which I diggin, BTW), when I come across the Gieco/Buddy Italia ad that lou76 mentioned back in July. I showed my wife and she said I should frame it. Here it is in case y'all missed it (I don't work for Gieco, just got a kick out of it).

AIS quoted me $137/yr. for basic coverage, no theft (comprehensive). Adding comprehensive jacked it up to over $400/yr . On a whim, I requested an email quote from Gieco. The next day, I got an email saying $97 for basic coverage with comprehensive. I figured it was a mistake. I called that night, added more coverage and 15 minutes later was signed up with full coverage. Here's the breakdown:

BI 15,000/30,000
Prop Damage Liability 5,000
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist
Collision and Comprehensive ($500 deductible)
Total: $193/year :D

I'm a 41 male, married, no tix, in Corona, CA 92879. The lady said that my zip code accounted for the low comprehensive cost ( $58 ). She said it would have been much higher in LA or San Diego. :wha: Yeah, I don't get it either. MSF cert will bring it down about $8. Anyway, hope this helps someone as a datapoint.

Im a 28 yr old male in pasadena with an accident record (i hit my bosses new audi in the parking garage at work  ) and my basic liability is 97 a year through Geico. Im going to upgrade to better coverage and theft etc soon. Its about 400 a year for that. They seem much cheaper then the other insurers i've tried, but I have no idea what they are like if you have to make a claim. I suspect that they dont pay out too easily.

Insurance rates vary wildly depending on number of factors, some of which seem arbitrary or, at least, mysterious.

My wife is insured through AIS because their quote was literally hundreds of dollars less than the same coverage via Geico.

The best advice I have for anyone is to shop around as much as possible for rates. I got quotes for basically the same coverage that varied by several hundred dollars a year.

But, from what we've seen, full coverage in the LA area runs around $200 for most new riders.

I did make a claim through Geico and it got paid but I have to say their service was unsatisfactory and the adjuster was difficult to work with. In contrast, when I had a crash last year, the responsible party's insurer, Safeco (no motorcycle coverage) was a dream. They paid out promptly, maintained great communication, and worked with me as I went through physical therapy and so on until I got my final settlement. They even paid higher than MSRP for the Buddy I totaled. Nuts! Maybe they have insanely high rates.

Scooter insurance

Ok So Portland is a but different

In Oregon, all you have to have is liability as the bare minimum, like 68$ a year, thru Progressive,
I have full coverage
personal/ passenger 50k/25k per incident
theft 10k
laibility person/ property 50k/25k
replacement coverage 10k
uninsured motorist 50k
disability reinbursment 3k/month

for 2 scooters( 1 vintage one new) and 1 motorcycle 235$ a year

I just re newed after shopping around, Geico was almost 300$, state farm was over 400$, and All state was around 350$

I think I get a discount due to being a home owner/ multi vehicle owner

Ive got 2 tickets on the scoot for speeding and an at fault accident for re-ending a lady who short stopped a traffic light. I had my front end damaged and replaced on my LX

don't know if it helps but I have had great customer service with Progressive.

Just another humble oppinion, shop around, good luck, ride safe

Funny... In Ohio, Progressive was by far the least expensive for my car insurance and outrageously expensive for the Buddy.

I had Allstate on the scooter (and my house), and they were both inexpensive, and very cool to deal with.

Here in SC, Progressive couldn't compete with esurance as far as the cars went, and Geico was about half of what Progressive cost as far as my motorcycle was concerned. :?
Huh? What just happened?
