Buddy 125 Speedometer 55 Red

Post by phatch »

This post is co-titled "Searching Forums:Needle in a Haystack"

'Sup with the "55" on the speedometer being red? Is this Genuine's way of telling me not to go faster than this? Is this like redlining the RPMs?

That's a relic of the National 55 MPH speed limit law, which is no longer in effect. At one point in time, the NHTSA required that all speedometers have the 55 emphasized. I don't think that's the law anymore, but I guess some speedo manufacturers have just continued with it. If you look, many car speedos are marked in the same way.

I think it's kind of cool anyway, as most non-scooter folks consider it a miracle that it goes that fast :P.

Except we're really not going that fast.
55 mph = ~45 bmph.
.::I know the voices in my head aren't real, but man do they come up with some great ideas::.

I had one person look at the speedometer on my Buddy 50, saw that it went up to 80mph, and just laughed.
