Post by creamcicle »

Trying to get an idea of "life expectancy" for my scooter....how many miles does your 2007 buddy 50cc have already?

Mine has 5002. Would be more, but I stripped the oil drain hole by overtightening the bolt, and haven't had a chance to get that taken care of. Be careful!

Take a look at one of our member's blogs: link

Parts wear fast, but I don't expect her to move on to the big road in the sky anytime soon.

I got 30,000 miles out of a 2008 Buddy 50 before I decided not to spend any more $ on it for repairs.

My Buddy 50 is a 2009: essentially the same scoot with a different birthday. It has over 17,00 miles so far, with the only money spent on it being for routine maintenance and expendables like tires, brakes, filters, and sparks. And gas and oil, of course. :)

As always, the keys to longevity: keep it stock, proper and timely maintenance, don't crash!

Okay so now that I know that my bike may still have a lot more "life" in it, any advice for me in regard to my oil light??? It keeps flashing on but I have oil in the tank. Never a dull moment but I love my bike!

any performance degradation?

Worst case, take it to a dealer and have them look. I know repairs suck but a simple repair now could avoid a lot more hassle or replacement later.

Well, if I do a couple of errands in a row, it doesn't start up easily and I need to jump start it, which is a pain because that parking break kILLs my back!

Do you carry around a set of jumper cables or one of those emergency start packs?

What about kick-starting it?

That sounds like an aging battery, which wouldn't surprise me on a 2007. That's outpatient surgery to replace. :)

Does the oil light come on at random times, or just when you start the scooter? Because it's normal for it come on briefly at start-up.

Has anyone seen or heard how many miles or kilometers the pgo versions of the 50cc have racked up in europe or asia since they've been there longer?
