Be a little careful advertising on Craigslist

Post by jrsjr »

I know you all know better, but this situation happened to a Genuine Blackjack owner. http://richmond.craigslist.org/mcy/3187392482.html He ran an ad for a modified Blackjack and then, a week later ran the same ad except now he'd trying to recover his stolen scooter. :(

What's the story here? Did someone who he showed it to come back and steal it or did he originally post his location? How much did Craigslist come into play in this instance?

Looks like he put a phone number in the ad. Quick search on one of my snooping sites I use for work says it's a landline and for $1 I can get the address. I don't care $1 worth, but a thief might.

remember to turn OFF your geolocation app on phones when you snap the pic as well. If you take the pic in the yard Web savvy folks can extract the GPS cords from it. I'm not one, but a friend showed me how its done...creepy.

Had recent one in Maryland.. If I was meeting someone in a public place DMV would be a good choice and I would make sure no one followed me home. Craiglist always recommends people meet buyers and sellers in public places yet folks keep inviting people to see bikes at their homes or give out enough info that someone could trace them and their location

Craigslist can be a great way to sell things, people just need to use common sense and meet the potential buyers in public places. I have had a guy once tell me once he didn't feel comfortable meeting in the police parking lot, I told him I'm not comfortable meeting anywhere else... We didn't meet, I didnt get robbed. Red flags get raised when potential buyers are not willing to talk on the phone before meeting or meet in public places.

I would never allow someone to meet at my home if I were trying to sell a scooter, but that's just me.

I've been meeting potential buyers of my items in the parking lot of a local police station. Sometimes, after I get inquiries and ask the buyer to meet at the police station, I don't hear from them anymore. Makes me wonder.
