HULK SMASH!

Post by BANNER2054 »

After my parts arrived and sat in the garage for a week I decided to install my crash bars and rear rack last night. So I reviewed the pictionary directions, laid out all the hardware and thought I would be out in 15 mins sporting my new chrome. I noticed the included hardware is zinc plated even though the directions refer to stainless steel steel bolts. No biggie I'll replace it later..... Everything went together quickly until those dreaded allen bolts next the seat. I have patience, but after an hour and a half I think I was starting to turn an angry color of green. My problem was the bolts are too short. I could get a quarter turn in the then it would pop out and started to strip the first couple on threads on the bolts. The rear rack bracket was flush with the crash bar bracket and the side panel but with the washer the bolt barely cleared all the pieces. After removing the washer I was able to get about two full turns on each bolt. There are no gaps between the rear rack, crash bar and the frame, the bolts are just too short! Glade I didn't go out and by replacement hardware first as I would have bought the same size in stainless or chrome.

Yeah, I went out and found some longer bolts for the seat bolts. Makes life a lot easier. :)

Be nice if they would just include longer ones, but it is what it is.
