Philly people - best time to buy Buddy 170i?

Post by RoaringTodd »

My fellow Philly riders - I'm in a search to replace my beloved Abigail. It seems that from the feedback here the 170i will either equal or exceed Abigail's off the line performance, nimbleness, and pure riding joy.

When do you think would be the best time to buy a 170i from Philly Scooters? When are their clearance sales or special deals? Their website does nots seem to be updated frequently, so I can not keep an eye on their deals.

My gut tells me I will have to wait until after the holidays to get the best value, however that's a long wait for me :-/

I wouldn't put much stock in their website or their having a "sale" or special pricing. I recently called them about a 2T stella after reading the following on their website;

"Come by to check out our special pricing on all new 2T Stellas in stock!!"

only to learn that they were asking $300 ABOVE msrp on three year old inventory. Their webpage was\is deceptive at best.

I'd search Genuine's website for a list of other local dealers and shop for your best price for sure.

I know this is a Genuine forum and all buuut your coming from a Honda.

Have you looked at the Honda PCX 150?

They are priced decently and quite zippy. I just went on a long ride with a PCX 125 and a PCX 150 and I've got a wee bit of Bike Envy and I'm riding a Big Ruckus!

Plenty of under seat storage room, Cubbies up front too, Quiet, Fast.

Your gut instinct is right: wintertime is the best time to get a 'deal' on a new scooter. Visit your local dealer regularly, make yourself aware of what is sitting on their floor, and then when the snow starts to fall you can help them get a scoot off the floor.

I stress the part about visiting your dealer and buying something they already have. Don't be the guy who is shopping prices over the phone and complaining on the internet. Form a relationship, buy some gloves or a pair of sunglasses, visit more than once, be serious about making a purchase, and getting a bike for a good price in the off-season can be a win-win for you and your dealer.

Also, there are often Factory promotions around the year end holidays. Sometimes discounts, sometimes free accessories, sometimes credits to be used for accessories. I haven't paid close attention for several years, but I think genuine has had some kind of promotiion every holiday season. If a scoot doesn't sell by November, it's year old inventory next spring. There's usually motivation to move anything in stock, once the temperature drops.

philly scoots has one of the lowest unpacking and assembly fees in the country. furthermore all of the guys who work there do it because they love scooters and don't make boatloads of money. go and try vespa philly, i'm sure they'll give you a sweet deal (sarcasm).

for an 09 2T stella I was quoted $3900 via Philly scooters despite the advertisement on their website of "special pricing" on the 09 inventory.

Want a good deal--- sarcasm on--- compare that to a fully assembled and serviced "out the door" price of $2900 (excluding taxes and title) from a dealer further up in the NE quadrant of the US. Even with shipping of $500 or less a buyer would still be saving a cool five large C notes by shopping around.

I just simply did not appreciate the come-on advertising on their website only to be jerked around when I inquired about their 09's.

And I love scooters as well--- and with a decent price the philly dealer could have sold me a scoot and I would have had some jingle in my pockets to buy a round of beers.

Old time butcher's (and they love their work too) have a saying--- "sell it or smell it".

I love dealers who complain about poor sales yet try to charge absolute top retail dollar and then throw on extra fees and etc. Why not sell the bike at a good price--- cut the customer a small break--- show the customer your love--- and find it a new home before your floor plan eats up all your profits.

End of story. Saracasm off.

I'm not the biggest Honda fan--- but I saw a PCX 150 on the showroom floor and it was impressive. The build quality (visually) was outstanding--- I sat on the bike and went vroom, vroom--- the ergos pretty good. It's on my short list now.

It's supposed to get insanely good fuel milegae for a 150--- and it tops out at somewhere btwn 65 and 70 mph from what I've been reading.

Lots of great scooters on the market. It's going to be tough being a consumer in 2012-13 with so many ecellent choices out there to pick from.

Decent price could mean for the dealer...(Some times you kick, sometimes you get kicked).

I'm sure they'd deal on an 09 buddy but your asking about a 2009 Stella. Specifically the LAST 2t Stella. This is a brand new with a warranty 2 stroke Stella. They arn't importing anymore. It's not going to lose value.
