Integrated turn signals not functioning

I just happened to notice today on my '12 Buddy 125 that the integrated turn signals on the front of the scooter don't work. The turn signals which hang down off of the handlebars work fine. Are they both supposed to work, or did Genuine add the handlebar signals and then disconnect the fender-mounted signals? They have bulbs in them so that wouldn't seem to make sense. How do I go about hooking them up so all 4 would work? Thanks!

The "deadlights" as they are often called do not work because you are correct that they hooked up the new ones and disconnected the originals. The deadlights are not far enough apart to be legal in the US. You can make those run too. There is a kit you can buy. Or you can do it yourself. Try searching posts for for the term "deadlights". You should hit a number of threads.

And, they work great too. I recommend the BOB Combo Adapter at $58.50 shipping included. Easy to install yourself and makes the "deadlights" into running lights as well as additional turn signal lights. As such, you'll be a LOT more visible to oncoming traffic.

Thanks, I've read a lot of posts on MB about this issue, and there are two concerns: First, the BOB adapter to running lights (which I'm leaning towards) drains the battery, and second, any modification will void my warranty (scooter is only 2 months old). So that being said, I'm thinking I should just wait until the warranty is over before doing anything. But as far as battery drain, if I switch to LED, then I need some sort of relay to keep the blinkers blinking at a normal pace. I think I've poked a hornet's nest!

If you make a minor change to the electricals and then have a problem with the carburetor or the shocks or the brakes while still under the warranty period, Genuine will fix the carburetor or the shocks or the brakes without hesitation. They aren't the kind of company that looks for loopholes to get out of honoring their warranty.

For that matter, if you have a problem with the electrical system that was not caused by the BOB adapter (and aside from prematurely killing the battery it's hard to think of one that would be), it would be trivially easy to undo the modification, and they would have no reason to question it.

If you want to be extra cautious, that's fine; I get that. But personally, I wouldn't postpone a minor, easily reversible mod like activating the deadlights as turn signals just for the sake of the warranty.

No, you have not poked a hornet's nest. Think of it as an investment in a safer ride and stop worrying about any possible side issues. They're minor at best and being more visible to oncoming traffic is far more important. Be safe out there!

I have the BOB adapter and have been very happy with it. And yes, I did have a problem with the battery draining. But it's an easy fix to just get a new set of LED lights to replace the blubs used in the dead lights.

Here is the post I made a while back with pics of my buddy with the LEDs up and running.

And since I didn't replace my DOT blinkers with LEDs, I didn't have to replace the flasher unit.
