Buddy Warranty

Post by tommyred »

On February 2nd, on a San Diego Scooter Squadron ride, my Buddy 125 started sputtering & dying. We'd stop, it started back up, then sputter & die again. Luckily, we were only a few miles from my condo. Dave, the leader of the ride that day was willing to go get his trailer, come back and get me home. But I figured I could make it, so I told the group to go on. I made it back home with only a few more episodes.

Here is where it gets interesting. I thought my warranty ran out next month, but it ran out this month. Thing was, it ran out on the 5th, & the problem happened on the 2nd! The next day my Buddy wouldnt even start, and me not knowing about the warranty problem yet, I used my Kymco as a backup so I waited a few days before calling Vespa Motorsports in San Diego, to tell them I'm dropping it off to see what the problem is & have it's 6,000 mile check up.

Another member of SDSS, ScooterDaddy, came over with his trailer, and took me Downtown to Motorsports at no charge. Gotta love the brotherhood of us scooterists.

After I realized the date problem, I asked if Genuine would cover it? They were very doubtful, and sent the warranty info, and the backstory behind the problem to Genuine. Much to my relief, Genuine paid for the part, but I had to pay the labor (of which I got a good % off the price at Motorsports). The part was a stator plate, & costs $90 + tax.

So in ending, remember when your warranty ends, and know Genuine stands behind your scoot...and you :D
