2007 50cc buddy no electric start?

Post by peapicklebuddy »

Hi i bought a used 2007 50cc buddy 1700 miles- i luv it so far....but it wont start with the electric button only starts via kick start. The blinkers, horn lights all work...I took the battery to batteries plus the guy said the battery was at 12.6 amps or volts (something) ..He said it was still a good battery. The previous owner said the scooter sat for a while not on a charger.... Any thoughts??? There is no clicking or anything when I push the start button.
Also anyone know if Sportique in Colorado Springs derestricts 50cc scooters automatically when they sell them? I was wondering if this had been derestricted?????

If the battery passes tests, and everything (such as blinkers) behaves as it should, that points pretty directly at a bad starter.

The dealer probably only derestricts 50s by request, so you can't draw any conclusions without inspecting it or seeing how it performs. If you can get it up to 40mph (or thereabouts), that's a pretty clear sign it has been. If not, it's a fairly simple procedure.

Dumb question but I have to ask.......are you aware you must apply the brake lever as well as the starter button to engage the starter?
