Noob here. No spark. PLEASE HELP.
My buddy 125 left me stranded one night when it wouldn't start up again. Took battery out and charged over night. Tried again with no luck. Pushed scooter home about a mile(up hill, both ways!
). Pulled out spark plug and it was dirty. Bought new one, installed. Still nothing. Pulled it out and did the spark test while cranking. Got a spark about 3 times out of the several dozen attempts to crank. Please help. I really don't have the money or way to take it to the shop. I've tried googling the problem, but since I am a noob at fixing my own scooter, the info that has popped up is a little too technical for me to follow. Pictures are awesome! When I can actually see what is being talked about, it is a tremendous help.[/b]

Will it kickstart?
If you've never done it…
This was a quick headlight-lit demo for someone who asked about it. I'll do a better demo someday.* Works for me, first kick most times.

Stand parallel to the scooter. Rest your right hand on the back for balance. Place right foot on kickstart lever. Slowly apply a little pressure until you feel resistance. Then kick it! Do it in one swift downward motion.
Whatever you do, don't just repeatedly kick the crap out of it if it's not working. Stop and try again between kicks. You can damage the scooter otherwise!

He's only getting sporadic spark, the gas cap thing is a "stalls after riding a little bit" problem.BuddyBliss wrote:Any word from Sugarchef? Did they get the buddy running?
Mine was stall city in Cocoa Beach, guess from going to the cold of PA to the heat of Florida, vapor lock, suggested to drill a few small holes in the gas cap. Viney?
I'd change the plug wire just to rule it out.
"Stella" is Latin for "use threadlocker on all fasteners"

Hey sugarchef,sugarchef73 wrote:Still no spark. Taking apart my acooter( hope I can get it back together) someone mentioned stator, so I started taking apart the generator assembly. I'm stuck on the flywheel comp. how do I get it off? I try to loosen the bolt in center, but the flywheel turns as I do so. Any tips?
I admire your willingness to dive in and start opening things up to see what's going on. However, make sure you know what you're looking for. If you're not mechanically inclined (like myself!), pulling stuff apart to find something awry generally only works if you know what to look for. As far as I know, stators are something that are generally replaced, not fixed up.
I haven't pulled apart my stator, but this video might help you get that flywheel off:

As suggested search for spark and stator. There are ways of testing it before removing and it might just be the pickup.
For me it wasn't..I just used a standard wheel puller to get the flywheel off. Once you do, clean the inside up with some contact cleaner...mine was pretty garffed up and my stator was filthy. I tried cleaning the stator and checking the pickup but wound up changing out the stator.
Don't forget about the other ignition components too, coil, cdi, ignition wire etc. chek them all and figure out what is wrong before just starting to swap out parts.

Update!
So I bought a plug cap and ignition pickup from www.scrappydogscooters.com but didn't really have the time to try out. While talking to a coworker(who rebuilds snowmobiles)about my problem, he was convinced it was the ignition coil. I found the stage one performance upgrade kit on scrappy dog that had the coil, plug cap, and CDI for only $37.50. These guys ship fast! Ordered Friday had it Monday. Tuesday is my day off, so I started on my scooter. I started with the coil first. Nothing. Changed the CDI next. Nothing. Finally, I decided I would take a crack at installing the ignition pickup. I was hesitant because it required running wire. Cut the old one and pulled through sleeve. Tried pushing new one through sleeve and got about half way. Didn't want to cut open sleeve, but no choice. I made a couple of small slits to get at the wire and feed it all the way through. Since I didn't have a proper connector pin, I just exposed about a 1/2 in of wire and wrapped it around the other connector. Screwed the pickup in and checked for spark. We have spark! I'm guessing it was just the pickup all along. Thank you to everyone for helping this noob out. Grand total spent: $70
