You might be a cager...

Post by jrsjr »

Pulling onto the highway this morning, I got that huge rush of joy and adrenaline that makes riding worth it. It occurred to me that you might be a cager if you don't get that rush.

Any other ways you might know you're a cager?

Highways are fine as long as your scoot can handle it. I don't trust my replacement engine on the highway so I only go on for very short stretches nowadays. However, the up side to that is my MPG has improved by quite a bit. I've gotten over 100mpg on my last two fill-ups!

Ill hit the highway if I have to, but I don't enjoy it. Even cruising at 68mph, wind gusts from trucks are still brutal. Something to do the Stella having the aerodynamic profile of a snow shovel...

My favorite are chopper riders with quarter helmets going 75+ mph and no windshields. Not sure what parrticular enjoyment someone gets from having skin pealed off their face without tanquiliser. I'd rather drive and that is a lot comming from someone who gets depressed if cannot ride at least once a week (winters are miserable).

I never giggle in my car.

I feel born-again every spring when I get back with my Buddy....

Today I took a delightful ride up along they Mystic Valley Parkway to picnic at the Mystic Lake. On the way home I giggled. I swear--I never feel like that behind a steering wheel. Nevah.

You might be a cager if you stay dry in the rain or warm in the winter, but what fun is that.

It's how the tough guys exfoliate.

You're a cager when you can't imagine life without a cupholder.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Back to the original thread...

You might be a cager if...
...you have a Harley Davidson decal on your car/truck/SUV but only ride on weekends.
Some weekends.
When the weather is nice.
During the Summer.
Maybe.

Hey now!

I saw a shirt last weekend while at a bike show that said 'Windshield and Radio? It's a [CENSORED] CAR!' on a crusty old biker dude. Pretty funny.

You might be a cager if you ask, "but do you feel safe..." and when I answer, "do you feel safe in your car? 'cause if you do, your not paying attention!" Then they look confused. R

A cager's insulated existence leads to no end of obnoxious behaviors, to bikers and to other cagers. Everyone in a car wishes the other cars and bikes were off the road, while bikers tend to at least enjoy seeing other bikers on the road. There's a difference in world-view.

In some cases, they just don't know any other approach, and as a former cager myself I can tell you I was often warned against taking up riding. For others that choose the caged lifestyle, I can only guess that they have decided not to enjoy the ride along the way. :D

I rode all through the winter (except when the driving ban was enforced) not going to let the cold get in the way of my ride :)

I also have a quarter Helmet and often on Rt1 hit around 75BMPH on a specific stretch. It is only a small stretch though, but it is an adrenaline rush for sure. Does not impact the face as much as you would think
