these aren't the most powerful, but look like an inexpensive way to catch some tunes while riding.

thoughts?

Motocomm Thumper 1 helmet speakers. I got myself a set for my cross country trip, they held up great. I did have a bad connection and contacted the company, they set me an entirely new set! Great customer service, I'd say. I bought a second set (or is that a third?) for my wifey. They are much better then mashed up ears from ipod buds, and allow me to hear important background noise like horns, sirens or gunfire. Not sure why they didn't get great reviews, but I'm satisfied, and the price can't be beat. Make sure you have pockets for them inside your helmet. I can also take them out easily and use them in my snowboarding helmet.

The lower-end speaker systems should be avoided. Everyone I know who's gotten one has had it fail on them.

The higher end ones should also be avoided. A guy in our group has a very nice, very loud system that he's quite proud of. And we all want to push his scooter over a cliff. It's so loud I can hardly hear my in-helmet audio or comm system or even my own thoughts. And he somehow doesn't know that people continued recording and releasing music after 1990. DUDE. You have an IPOD. It holds a ton of songs!

There's a guy in Phoenix with an Aprilia SR50 Ditech who has a set of external speakers. He rides about, blasting country music. While I don't take issue with his taste in music, word round the local scene is that it makes some folks reluctant to ride with him. The upshot of this anecdote is that you may want to consider keeping your taste in music private if you like to group ride.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...

Do you have any pics of how you mounted them? Most seem to be bar mount, which seems difficult given the plastic shroud over the Buddy's bars. I have been looking at that exact setup from Pyle.

Scooters already come with a sound system.

It's called the sound of an internal combustion engine. When you want something different, it's called an exhaust swap. 8)

I actually have a very nice factory stereo on my Harley Street glide...6-1/2" speakers, Harmon Kardon Stereo, lots of power. I seldom use it. I like the sound of the road, engine, nature, and getting away from it all. Sometimes on the highway after riding 7 or 8 hours I'll turn it on for a bit, but usually not long. I always ask passengers if they want to hear music or just the "ride", 9 times out of 10, it's "the ride".....
