Buddy 125 stolen and stripped: What's missing?

Post by pooponastick »

We are trying to figure out which parts were taken off our 2007 Buddy 125.

Also can we use 2011 Buddy 50 chassis parts, floor mat, speedometer (etc) to repair our 2007 Buddy 125?

personally I would let the insurance/shop work something out. you want it given a once over for peace of mind before you decide to fully hang onto it. if it is that beat up you never know if something else was done, like a bent frame, or what key missing parts may be expensive.

I wish I could help with pictures, but I've altered my wiring in the front (alarm and heated grips w/ LED and rotary control) and enabled my deadlights as well, so it would not be very useful to you. :(

Perhaps someone else could supply a picture...?

Yes, you probably can see a parts picture on line, but it also helps to compare another Buddy to yours...if this is something you still want to pursue, that is...

Do you live near your dealer? Maybe you could go in and take pictures of one they are working on, or they might let you take the front cover off and take pictures.

Frankly, if I were you, I'd just take your scooter in to them and have them check it out. If the frame is bent (and they would be better able to tell than you perhaps) you probably don't want to mess with it. When my first Buddy was totalled, the dealer pronounced that it's frame wasn't bent, so then I proceeded to replace all the panels, handlebars, headset, etc. But without knowing the whole story (dealer giving it a look-see), you may not want to go down that path. :?

If you're in Lexington I'd take it to the Genuine dealer there. (Vespa of Lexington)

Let them draw up an inventory list of parts needed and cost to repair for your insurance company.

Then submit the paperwork.

That presumes the OP has comprehensive insurance.

Looks like the horn, flasher unit, and CDI are present up under the hood. I don't think you're missing anything there. I don't know for sure about the setup under the missing headset plastics, though, so I'll leave that to others.

Thanks for the help!

I don't have theft insurance, so that's not an option (cancelled it a week before it was stolen, d'oh!)

It doesn't look like it was wrecked, just stripped. I'm just hoping it's not missing anything too elaborate to install. The wheels and engine are intact, so it almost looks like the thieves didn't mess with the bolts, and took what they could with a simple screwdriver.

If anybody has a photo of their buddy without a cover, that would be very helpful and appreciated!

I found somebody who is selling a ton of 2011 Buddy 50cc parts (everything but the frame and the seat) for $250. I'm hoping a lot of it (body, headlight, turn signals, speedometer, etc.) will just be plug and play.

I'm willing to tinker, but I can't afford to replace the parts and pay for the labor to do it, unfortunately.

I know I need a different battery at least. Does anybody know if most of the flesh wound parts are replaceable from the Buddy 50?

Thanks again for everybody's advice!

This CDI thread shows the front view. The scoot in that thread is newer and has a bigger air horn in place, but the other parts seem to be there.

Your bottom bracket where the lower front cover screws on appears bent, or perhaps the lower plastic is joggled a bit.
