In checking tire pressure yesterday I had the Silver Streak up on the center stand and while checking the rear tire I noticed that the wheel had about an inch of free play rotation forward and backward. Is this normal or do I have a
problem? I have 650 miles on the scoot and it runs fine. It does seem to go into a neutral position as it is coming to a stop, sort of free wheels but it takes off like a Greyhound and does 55-60 GPS mph with ease. Any commentswill be appreciated as I am mechanically challenged.
In an attempt to avoid guessing and sending you in all the wrong directions, I'm suggesting stopping by a dealer and feeling the play you describe on another new or used unit just to see if yours is 'different'.
My black jack does the same thing, wife's 125 is tight no play at all. I've tried to use 125 gears in the 150 and it was binding so tight you couldn't turn the wheel.
Easy, I assume that your Black Jack runs OK. Robbie, good suggestion. My dealer is 40 miles away and I emailed him early yesterday but have had no
response so far. I prefer email as my cochlear implant does not handle phone calls very well. If I end up having to go there then so be it but will
appreciate more input from you guys.
Our Buddy 125 seems to have about a quarter inch of free movement at the rear wheel before you are obviously rotating the mechanical parts of the gearbox.
Dooglas, I went back and double checked and you are right, mine has about
1/2" play. so I am not going to worry about it. Next time I am at my dealer
I will check one there. Thanks.
Yeah - mine has maybe 1/8 inch or so free movement before counter-force from the transmission. Probably differences across bikes in line with normal variability in manufacturing, parts, and riding histories.
I changed gear oil yesterday at 650 miles, old oil looked clean but I did notice some oil like residue on the tire rim. Not sure if it was picked up from the road or if there is a gear box leak. If the latter I cant see it and a normal
amount of gear oil drained out. Going to try to get to my dealer this week and see if other 170's have this play.

Thanks, guys. I am going to assume that a bit of play is normal but will check
at my dealers the next time I am down there. I just cleaned my rear tire rims thoroughly with shop rags and alcohol now that I have changed the gear oil.
I put in 110 cc's the first time and 90 cc's this time. If I over filled it the first time hopefully I have not blown the seal.I am going to ride this week a lot now that we are having 5 dry days If it is blown I will know quickly.
