I may have to say good bye to my buddy.
I've been reading up on the Kymco Like 200i. Aside from the lame name and the whole misleading 200 part it seems solid. My local dealer lists one for about two to three hundred dollars more than what I paid (after tax) for my buddy 50. I am honestly kicking myself in the head for not going this route the first time round. Now my mechanic told me the buddy 150 and 170 will out perform the Like I am confident that it will be much better then the 50. I had been searching on ways to get more speed out of my buddy and the more I look it seems like I'll have to spend at least 400 to 500 to really see any real performance boost in the buddy 50.
Has anyone ridden this scooter? Any observations about it? I've read three reviews so far and all love it. Two said it wasn't fast enough for highway and one saying it was.

so the Buddy 50 is not fast enough for you? well the Like will be faster, yes. top speed for sure. but its a 163cc as you may know. it also has fuel injection, pretty sure? and while those two things are nice its still essentially a glorified 150cc scooter. so expect 150cc performance
all other things being equal it seems a good scooter. i road one briefly last year and it reached 65mph indicated with my 240lb butt on it. no fuss, really. if you want 50-55mph cruising speeds it should do fine conditions permitting.
i don't own one, but some here do. its a bigger, faster scooter. a better scooter? nah. but more scooter. so if "more" is what you want sure....sell the Buddy or what have you, and pick it up. BUT it's not the only scooter that will go down the road well

Other than more speed, unclear what your criteria is. Include the Sym 200's in your research . . liquid cooled, NOT fuel injected.NeoGenesisMax wrote:been reading up on the Kymco Like 200i

meh...I'm no fan of the like. Its kinda ugly and the shallow floor board was not for me. I personally would be looking for a used buddy 125 and selling my 50. I'd keep the 50 until next spring and sell it when things thaw out. In the mean time I search out a sweet deal on a buddy 125. Sunnyd is considering selling his and its been fully blinged out, no idea on price.

Well the buddy 125 is the same price. The Like has morr room, comes with a trunk, had disc breaks all around, has fuel injection, and bigger wheels. There are no.Buddies locally listed and im not traveling hours away to get one. For the same money i coukd get a Kymco Venox and have a 250 with a good five speed transmission none of that hoping the cvt is in the correct gearing for what i want. But i'd prefer the scooter. The space is great im 5'10" and fit in it fine. On a side note the kymco agility 125 is a joke. The key sticks so far out the ignition that you lose an inch of knee room. I couldnt sit on it and cant imagine who could.without hitting their knee. It gets cold and hilly here. The kymco Like would handle those things a bit better according to reviews i read.
