Chain lock for 170i

Post by thegodlikehobo »

So I picked up my new 170i yesterday (yay) and took her for a few rides. When it came time to lock up for the night, I realized the hefty chain lock I purchased last week was way too large to fit through the wheels. I found a secure place to run it near the center stand, but it involves likely burning myself on engine components many times in the future.

I found this lock with a rod which could fit through the wheels, and am waiting to hear from their customer service regarding the rod's dimensions.

Anyway! I'm hoping to find suggestions here when it comes to decent locks compatible with a 170i. I prefer chain locks, but will totally go for a proven cable lock as well.

I've used a kryptonite one going through the front forks for a couple of years. We kind have to because the chain won't go through the wheels on the rear, and it irritatingly dings up the finish on the rim. It's also not super secure, since the front wheel isn't that hard to remove.

I'd be interested to hear if the beast fits. it seems like a bit of an annoying thing to carry, but it would probably be a lot more convenient.

Amazon review (where it is MUCH cheaper...) says they used on a vespa LX

If you're referring to the tube on the underside that connects the two sides of the frame (between the center stand and the kick stand), I've used that over and over without ever getting burned. The left side is pretty safe.

Hey, thegodlikehobo, I know you! I'm currently babysitting your 170! :D

If anyone else has any other suggestions for locking a 170, I'd be curious to know, since I'm the one keeping an eye on thegodlikehobo's scooter until August.

My wife and I have a older version of the onguard Beast. It does fit through the spokes of our buddy 125s. We cut the plastic coating back to make it a little looser, but you can get it through without. It will also fit under the seat.

It's big and heavy!
