My scooter was stolen and folks here convinced me that theft insurance is the way to go when I replace my scooter. I called Progressive, my insurance company, and was gratified that the additional coverage was less than I expected--around $250 a year for a 2012 Buddy 170i with about 300 miles on it. Insurance without theft coverage has been running me just over $100 year. In the meantime, my dealership offered me a price on a new 2013 Buddy 170i that wasn't far below the price of the used bike, so I decide to go with that.
When I called Progressive for a quote on the new bike, they said the cost for full coverage would be $320 a year and $170 a year for insurance with no theft coverage. I can't believe that the cost for coverage on the new bike is dramatically higher than on the nearly-new bike. And that even without theft coverage, my insurance costs have risen nearly 40%. I have had issues with incorrectly quoted rates in the past and I would prefer not to do business with them anymore.
Any Alternatives in Massachusetts for Insurance Coverage?

You do need to understand that theft, collision, and comprehensive insurance is partially based on the value of the vehicle. A 2013 scooter is worth more than a 2012 scooter so you should expect some difference in rates. You should also get more than one quote before purchasing insurance. Below is a link to a number of MA providers.

And now that you have had a scooter stolen that will affect your rates as well. Same applies to cost of living changes in the couple days between the two quotes, the two quotes themselves, the hard winter, and seemingly random choices on the part of the insurance company.
