Anyone have a Brit?

Post by jrstone »

Just curious. We may be selling the St. Tropez soon and getting one. Haven't seen anyone post one on here.

No, he means the blue Buddy International. Though, unless it is time for a new scoot for other reasons - why not just do a panel swap (or custom paint)

Plus the Intl are no longer available in the 150cc model. Why not hang on to it

I thought about just swapping panels, but I figured the 170 would be enough of an upgrade to make it worth trading. Maybe not, though. The 150's performance is just fine. I guess I'll have to see what the total cost of all of the panels and either a new seat or getting the seat reupholstered would be. I'd probably end up buying the solo seat either way though.

Would the 170 be better for longer rides at a fairly good pace (50-55mph)? And would it be able to tackle hills a little better? Those two things would make it worth upgrading.

One night and she drunk me under the table. Fortunately, there was a nice rug.

We ran our first St Tropez just under 20,000 miles and traded it. Just picked up the Brit for a project for our daughter. We also picked up a new 170, got 285 miles on it - check out the Fuelly in my signature for the first few tanks. It has a tendency to do a slight jump off the line even with very little throttle. They have made some improvements with this engine. It feels hot. We have not pushed it as it is still so new yet out of the gate this bike likes to run and really sips the gas.

Body panels will cost you about $700 for the outer body plastics - then add something for the inner matt black pieces plus a good 8-10 hour day if this is your first rodeo with a lot of patience and you can get a good idea of what the body swap will "cost" you. We have done two complete body swaps and it is work, yet really awesome once done!

Side note the British Royal Blue is so cool - I would have jumped on this over the St Tropez had it been on the market back in 08-09.

Your wheels will not look right - have to get royal blue and rattle can them or go flat black. If you dod the body swap you could go all royal blue (like the 125) and keep the inner parts and wheels as an accent. Just a thought.

A "project"? I assume it is to improve her, because these bikes are bullet-proof.

I swapped all of the panels on my Aprilia (from black to blue). It took me about 4.5 hours without having a manual and having to figure out how everything went together so that I could take it apart. I don't imagine I would have any trouble with the Buddy, although the front wheel didn't have to come off of the Sportcity.

My wife loves the Brit colours. She said when we got the St. Tropez that she wished it was blue and white. When they announced the Brit last year, she decided she needed one.

That said, she's 115lbs and doesn't exactly need any more power. I used to be able to hang with her on my Sportcity 125, but after replacing a bad stator and upgrading the CDI, that Buddy is a rocket. She can easily hit 70 bmph on a flat stretch of road.

But a Brit would come with brand new Maxxis whitewalls...

Right there with ya… the 150's can book and with a few tweaks combined with a lightweight rider they will beat pretty much everything off the line and maintain the top end.

We really wanted to do business with our local dealer over the past few years and since they had a pair of what we considered "made for us" we had to make it happen.

I added a windshield and a brand new Prima pipe on my matt black (MB) 170 while still waiting to get my hands on our daughters scoot. She is taking her time getting to the first oil change then she will get a few upgrades like her solo seat goes back on, black out kit installed, windshield, cowl protectors, rear rack for her Givi case and last weekend she heard my pipe, she said I could put a Prima pipe on her Brit as well.

After that we have a whole list of special details on the body panels to customize it just for her so it will be a very special Brit. It was the blue wheels that sealed the deal when we went to lunch one day and I showed it to her at the dealer, sitting there calling out to her.

We would love to upgrade my wife's scoot as well, yet it was just about 15 months ago we did a full body swap turning her customized 09 Italia International Potent Pink and I am not really ready to do that again. She just hit 13,000 last week. It runs great, sounds good, looks even better and she loves it. We traded her last Buddy at 10,000.

It was all about justifying the purchase… no we didn't have that kind of money just lying around, no we were not hurting for a new scoot as they were very reliable and had years of life left in them. Yet we are glad we could do it.

Getting ahead of myself, yet our daughter saw the pics of another rattle can blue project scoot here and just had to have one… with a twist so to speak. The project is all with the Brit blue body panels being customized just for her. The blue wheels on the Brit and the couple of white body panels work perfect for what it will end up as, making it an original and not a copy. Pictures to follow this summer...

I just went and looked at the Brit in person. That's a gorgeous little scooter. The white is kind of a pearl white. Looks really good against the blue.

They also have a GB edition Stella (which I would love to have), but they want WAAAAAAAAAY too much for it. $3999. It's got almost 4k miles on it and is not in perfect condition by any means. And, curiously, it has Buddy Italia badges all over it instead of the GB 150 ones. The only GB badge left is the one on the front. I know it's a limited edition, but considering I have a friend who picked up an '09 with under 200 miles on it for half that price, I'll pass.

British International

No worries - I do want both her and her mom to take the advanced class to loosen up a bit on the bike. They both aced the MSF class and are very much by the book. Notice the sitting style she picked up from Josephine when she visited from East Side Scooters.

Just to feed the frenzy of how cool is that scoot... (for jrstone or his wife):

Here is the factory fresh British International with the proud new owner leaving the dealer about a week ago.

Hi everyone, this is my first post but I've been lurking for awhile. Here's my 170i Brit that I bought this week!

I'm having a blast riding, and am working hard to break it in based on Genuine's guidelines and the best practices I've read here.

I'm in Northwest Arkansas, in the beautiful Ozark mountains. There are tons of nice country roads, and the area is a great place to ride.

Ozarks? Are you planning on being at the "Scoot The Ozarks" in September? We will be there - be great to ride with a local. You got plenty of time to break it in and be ready to roll come this fall.

I am planning to go, for at least a ride or two. Give me a shout and I'll take you out for lunch or a drink!
