Bought a Hooligan - Quite Pleased

Post by Elder Scoot »

I just picked up my 2015 Hooligan in matte black. It's too early to write a comprehensive report - BUT - my initial impressions are quite positive. It's a bigger frame bike - more like my former Vespa 300 GTS than my Stella. It has real shocks, front and rear, and real brakes too. The seat is very comfortable and gives room to maneuver. With the seat, shocks and longer frame the bike takes on Houston's bumpy roads with gusto. The motor is brand new so no reports on jack rabbit take offs - but it gets my 200 lbs. of solid muscle off the line quickly with minimal throttle. It fills up with gasoline just like a car - no spilling - what's with that? I've never had a scooter that didn't have some gasoline filling quirk. For the first 15 miles IMHO this is the best under 300cc scooter I've ridden.

That's because the gas cap is much higher than the tank and the neck is longer. So when the vapors come up it stops before it spills. ;)

That's high praise coming from a BMW C600 owner! Glad to hear. :D

I had read that the Hooligan stores the gasoline in the lower portions of the bike - which adds to a lower center of gravity as well as ease of fill up. Good thinking Genuine.

The Hooligan, like the Buddy, is a quality bike. I'm a big fan of well-made, Taiwanese products. The motor for my BMW bike was designed by BMW and manufactured by KYMCO in Taiwan for BMW which I consider a plus. The Hooligan feels much more like my BMW than does my Stella in terms of fit and finish and performance.

The dual rear shocks and "all disk brakes" kick ass.

Great product. I love my 150 but I have my eye on this one.

Thanks a lot Elder Scoot. Now you've made me insanely envious. I feel like that V8 juice commercial: "You coulda had a V8!!". Oh well, I still like my Blackjack. I used its Stebel horn against a box truck that pulled out in front of me today. Then I passed him like he was standing still. I suspect he's still scratching his head.

You're correct - however the Hooligan was a joint enterprise between PGO and Genuine and I bought the bike from Genuine. It's a distinction that is not really important.

I'm a big fan of the Buddy. Most of the folks I ride with in one of my clubs ride a Buddy and I've never seen one with mechanical issues or a Buddy rider without a grin.
