I read that the H2R will be a "track only" bike for now. It shouldn't be long before before somebody offers a light kit to make it street legal.
I remember when Kawasaki introduced their 900cc street bike in the 70s. Critics thought nobody would spend their hard earned money on such an indulgence from Japan and they thought the chain would never last 1000 miles. Kawasaki has never regretted their plunge into the superbike market.

I'm not sure what to make of the canard stub wing things on the H2R.
