Help, please. Troubleshooting headlamp
Hello! I'm new here and looking for help. I searched the site so as not to bring up an old topic and couldn't find anything.
I bought a used 2014 Buddy 125 and noticed that the headlamp won't go on. Neither will the speedometer, or tail light. Brake lights, turn signals, hazard light all work fine.
I popped the covers (front and top) and looked for loose wiring, everything seems in tact.
Any ideas?
thanks in advance

Those lights are all powered right off the yellow wire that comes straight off the stator. There's no fuse in that circuit, so it's either a loose connector or a bad stator. If you're not able to find an obvious loose connection or severed wire, then you're going to need somebody with electrical troubleshooting skills in addition to mechanical skills. Sorry...

Just to be certain, the engine is running when you're doing these checks, right? Because none of those things work on my scooter either when the engine isn't running since like jrsjr said, they're powered from the generator, not the battery.
Oh, and welcome to MB.

The yellow wire that jrsjr mentioned goes from the stator to the voltage regulator then to the ignition switch. Before giving up on the stator, I'd check the voltage regulator first since it has been known to fail. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage at the battery terminals for greater than 13 volts, but not more than 15 with the engine running at around 2 - 2.5k rpm. Make sure the scooter is on it's centerstand when you're doing this.

Plug this in: Fast shipping, good quality.

If problem is sill there (I bet it won't be), replace the Stator.
A bad flywheel can also cause this, but your scooter is so new, I doubt it.

Good call. That connector is under a black rubber boot that can be slid out of the way.avescoots1134 wrote:Remove the seat and look on the right side of the engine at one of the main connectors coming out of the right cover. The yellow wire was likely knocked loose. I've seen it before.

I'm pretty sure the yellow wire feeds the regulator, but is also routed directly to the headlight and taillight so the headlight and taillight work even if the voltage regulator is dead. It's done that way so a failed voltage regulator doesn't man a ride home without a headlight and taillight. If you read schematics, you can check it below. This is the most authoritative schematic I have, the actual wiring of US-spec scooters differs, because our Federal Government regulates that the headlight on a motorcycle must always be on, so we don't get an on-off switch as this schematic indicates.
If someone knows for certain that I am wrong, please PM me.
Thanks!
