Fuel injection stalling issues

Post by mukaiboston »

I've had an issue in the past where the engine on my Buddy 170i would stall if I were stopped and accelerated hard or were coasting very slowly and tried to accelerate. This happened twice last fall and it happened once yesterday. It has only happened in the fall so far and not any other time of year.

The internet research I've done points to the carb needing cleaning, except that I don't have one because it is EFI.

When it stalls, the engine just turns off...like hitting the kill switch. It starts right back up again, but it's annoying and scary.

Scooter is 2013 model with about 10660mi. Spark plug replaced last December. Air filter, brake fluid and transmission oil were changed over the summer. Motor oil was last changed about a month ago. The gas tank is refilled about once a week.

There just doesn't seem to be much information about fuel injected scooters out there...only carburetors. Anyone have any experiences?

This issue aside, I just want to say that this fuel-injected Buddy has been pretty much 100% reliable compared to the Buddy 50 I got rid of. In ten below zero temps, I would have to keep cranking the Buddy 50 to get it to start and rev the engine to warm it up. This Buddy 170i just starts and goes no matter how cold it is. Totally worth the extra cost over a carburetor. I'm never going back.

The EFI relies on perfectly adjusted valves in order to operate correctly.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to see if I can open this and check them myself.
