Observing the Equinox on my Buddy

Post by wheelbender6 »

The ancients observed the Vernal (Fall) Equinox by watching the sunrise on that date. The Equinox means the hours of daylight equal the hours of darkness, or something to that affect.
-I was returning from the grocery store on my Buddy at sunset today, on a road headed due West. I noticed that the sun was setting in the middle of the road, which never seems to happen. I finally made the connection that the Equinox is tomorrow.
I will be in my office tomorrow morning, working away when the Equinox sunrise occurs, so I glad I was able to experience it today.

I thought the Vernal one occurred in the spring? Anywho, every time someone mentions the Vernal one, I keep remembering this:

The vernal equinox is in March, the autumnal equinox is in September. The sun rises/sets due east/west those days.

And the length of daylight equals the length of night. Hence that "equi-" thing.

Happy Vernal Equinox!

You colder-climate folks can start dusting off your bikes now.
