Take Off Power Gone Way Down

Post by laurfunkle »

Hey all!

My 2012 Buddy 125 with about 13,400 mi on it has started to have some take-off issues. I ride it very regularly and it runs like a champ (as it always has), but when I pull the initial throttle it's taking off very slowly. Once I get up to about 10 mph it picks back up to normal throttle reaction speed. I changed the belt/sliders at just over 8,000 MI so I wouldn't think that they'd already be due yet. It's scary because when I need to take a left turn on a busy road and it doesn't take off fast enough I'm scared I'm going to get smacked by an oncoming car!

This could be in my head but I also feel like around the same time I started having the take off issue my muffler started making a little more noise. I've checked the muffler out (not entirely thoroughly, tbh) and didn't see any holes, although it's gotten pretty rusty.

So my questions are: Could there be a small hole somewhere in the muffler/pipe that I didn't see that could be affecting take off speed? Could my belt/sliders need to be changed prematurely? Could my clutch just be glazed over? These are the possibilities that I've thought of. Any other suggestions/possibilities would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I've had my carb cleaned recently so it shouldn't be an issue with that.

When was the last time you did a valve adjustment?

No idea, so maybe never? I'll ask my mechanic if that's something they do/check when they clean the carb.

I doubt they did it, but it doesn't hurt to ask. If it's never been done, there's a good chance that this could be the problem. Good luck!

Could be that O ring on top of the carb.

If you don't put it back JUST so.
