Finally getting a Buddy

Post by Mikestib1 »

Two years ago almost bought a used 125 but as it was pink, I couldn't do it and have to paint it with a spray can. Any how two Chinese scooters later, I found a leftover 2013 Buddy 170i at a great price and full warranty. Plus it's silver with a black racing stripe. Will be delivered today. I'm psyched. Any one want a like new Yamaha R3 as I think the Buddy will be my main ride

Congrats on a great ride! You'll love it.

I'm curious, what didn't you like about your R3?

R3

Post by Mikestib1 »

There was nothing I didn't like but since I live in a small city, I found myself riding a scooter more, Shifting thru gears every block seemed a chore compared to the CVT twist and go tranny. I've owned roughly 50 motorcycles or scooters at my age, 67. From Harleys and Triumphs, Ducatis, and all big four Japanese makes. If I had the money and space, I'd have kept them all.

Great choice for a great scooter. I to have owned a bit of everything at some point in my riding years, yet I have always owned a Buddy 125 since 07. It is the perfect balance of power vs. size, and the insurance is pretty cheap along with low running cost. Again, congrats. Now, the R3 got great reviews (have yet to ride one) and if I was in the market for a quality smaller cc rocket bike it would be on my short list. Wait, and you have a Adly Bullseye!? Good old 2 strokes. Gotta love 'em! I like the RT50. Our local dealer has yet to get one in stock.

Adly Bullseye

Very happy with mine. Peppy like the Buddy 50 but I like the 12" wheels. 2 year warranty and roadside assistance. Had a stalling issue and the importer, Bintelli, sent the dealer a complete new carburetor and now it runs great. Top speed is an indicated 45 mph. They are not shipped restricted so no need to fool with that. They are about $400 less than the Buddy and also made in Taiwan. My local dealer sold Bintellis but could special order the Adly.

Bad news

Post by Mikestib1 »

Rode it for 5 miles, lost power and stalled out. Luckily I could push it home. This is a 2012 purchased new and delivered by a dealer 90 miles away. When it stalled I also smelled gasoline. Anyhow in the garage I checked the battery voltage as I know fuel injection and the cpu needs at least 12.6 volts. Only read 12.2 on my volt meter so put it on a trickle charger for 60 minutes and read 12.95v
Tried to restart it and gasoline leaked out on the floor. Anyhow the dealer picked it up today to repair it. Got my fingers crossed. It sure was fun for those first 5 miles!
No I didn't call for roadside assistance on a Sunday, and yes there is a local dealer for future service but the selling dealer is the responsible party. The local dealer only stocks 50cc models and the price from the dealer out of town was irresistible
I'll keep you posted. Really hope I get it back this week! It was fun for 20 minutes!

Stiil hopeful I made the right choice

Post by Mikestib1 »

Before I got the check to pay for the 170i, I was ready to buy a Pcx150 or a Smax. but I decided even though the Buddy was $2800 and the two other scooters were $3600 and were big 4 brands, the Buddy was the right choice. A scooter should be light and flickable. The Honda and Yamaha are heavy and are engineered like motorcycles. I already own a Yamaha R3 so I went with the Buddy. Only rode it 5 miles before I had it stall out and pour gas on the rode. Still l feel when the dealer sorts it out and I can ride it again I'll be happy I bought the Buddy
