did you have to prime it? did you use clear coat for the finish? did you use a special paint for rims like Duplicolor or something like this Rim Paint?
Hey Deuce, how tall are you? I've never sat on a buddy, but from the pictures with you on the scoot, looks like there isn't much room left for a passenger.
The buddy has plenty of passenger room, the passenger sits behind you, and they rest their feet on the silver foot pegs, usually they are silver, but I think he repainted those also back then. It's the jagged metal stubs on the back of the floor boards.
Corsair,
I painted my wheels with a friend who had experience painting wheels on a porsche he messes around with.
we did not need to prime it. We took the wheels off, which was pretty easy. (Had to remove the muffler). Then we taped the wheels off and used some steel wool to rough up the original wheel finish. Then we just painted them with Krylon automotive engine paint. Same thing as the Duplicolor your talking about (3 or 4 thin coats). Any rim or wheel paint would work. IMO, the key is semi gloss finish.
Rajron, of, course, i hope your right. However, since these are spraypainted by a novice rather than powdercoated or dipped or something like that, some chipping will inevitably occur.
I DID use the correct type of paint, though, and will let the buddy sit for a long time. It should be fine. We'll see.
Good question. I set the scooter on a 6 x 6 (deck post width) scrap board right under the battery compartment which was suitably stable. When you do this you must be careful. This was my laypersons solution. Someone else might have a better one...
