My old boss had a Zuma 50cc 2-stroke that snagged a ring, so he ordered a cheap ebay replacement kit for it. It worked great for a very fair price, no issues at all. As long as you look for any slag or slop from casting you should be fine using that ebay top end for a factory/50cc replacement. BUT, what caused the original cylinder to fail? Fix that issue fist or you'll just be ordering another one, and another.....

oh, nothing failed. I'm just looking. It seems the Buddy uses the same top end as a Yamaha.

Something out there about a Yamaha style cylinder allows you to run a "normal" expansion style exhaust, because the exhaust side is a normal angle. I've never messed with a aftermarket exhaust on a Buddy 50 and have never seen a tuned Rough House in person.

Airsal top end kits are a bit cheaper. The only gotcha I've seen with them is that the pistons are only good for 9K RPM.

Personally, I think that an Athena 50 Sport kit is a better buy:

This is about $120 on Amazon currently.

No problem fitting an aftermarket pipe on the cylinder. The trouble starts when you try to bolt it to the exhaust mounts behind the flywheel housing.

MLM made a nice side bleed expansion chamber that bolts up perfectly. If you put it on a Zuma, the pipe fits the cylinder nicely but the mounting bracket misses the crank ase mounts but at least a centimeter.

The Yasuni Z comes with two mounting brackets. One for Yamaha and Yamaha clones, and the other for PGO. Really good pipe for 50cc kits and even mild 70cc kits. Fits both Zuma's and Buddys with no issue.

Wouldn't it be better to get an Italian sourced top end for less? Minarelli is an italian company and they invented the engine. If you buy anything on ebay or Amazon, you're paying about twenty percent more than it's actually worth. Here's a true Minarelli kit from italy for $70.

Yeah, probably. Won’t be anytime soon. I plan on keeping it a 50cc also.

Going with a 70cc bbk kit is the start of a fun drug addiction! It's not just slap a bbk on and go, you'll learn about jets, bigger carbs and related mounting options, transmission tuning, final gear ratios and other learning curves. But once its done and tuned right its so much fun! I actually used my bbk Zuma for a daily for a long time. I put around 5000 miles on the Malossi cast iron 70cc street kit. I forget all the specs but it was worth doing.
