How to remove carb Needle? Buddy 50
I see a little plastic plug in the slide. How is it removed? I decided to leave it alone since I don’t believe the engine has a need for more fuel mid throttle. The jet kit supplier did recommend adding 2 washers.

I'd have to check the carb at the shop, but I think you just need to hold the carburetor cap, compress the spring until the cable pushes out of the throttle slide, slip the cable into the slot in the side of the slide and carefully separate the carb cap from the slide so the spring doesn't go flying. Then, tip the slide to release the plastic plug that supports the spring and keeps the needle in place.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

I still get nervous removing that needle because I'm afraid of damaging it. Its like a little puzzle and once you see how its done you'll understand how to add the washers. Use machine washers for best results by the way, not clunky thick galvanized washers. When we (a friend and I) used to do build parties we did a whole session on carb tuning. We'd have around 5 to 10 people show up at my house. We'd set-up the tables, some would bring drinks and I'd order food for everyone. Sometimes my friend would man the grill, or one of the guest would volunteer. Tuning parties are fun!
YouTube used to have a good video on shimming moped style carbs. Not only would we shim carbs with washers we'd swap out the needles to different tapers. The easier carbs to mess with, but not by much, have the clip to raise or lower the needle. Either way the beast way to learn is by watching someone. It is a hard process to describe but once you figure it out you'll be golden. Fine tuning a carb is a Zen like process. I get my tunes "Close enough..." but my friend is a prefectionist with his tunes. And yes, his tunes destroy my lazy tunes!
