Review of Prima Scooter Kilt # 0100-0845.

Post by sc00ter »

I got tired of my legs freezing in the winter and didn't want all the velcro tabs of a scooter skirt so I ordered a Prima Scooter Kilt.

I put it on backwards, adjust the waist size and clip it together and flip it around. Boom, warm and water proof. Now to the details!

Once adjusted the waist size stays in place. The big plastic clip seems excellent quality and is easy to clip and un-clip, with or with out gloves. The outer material is water and wind proof and contains reflective accents, but a target? On a scooter? Hummmm.... Anyways, the reflective accents are very noticeable and covers the sides. But a target? On a scooter?

The kilt has 2 magnetic pockets on each side. They keep your contents secure and the magnets click tight. I kinda wish the pockets went all the way thru but its easy enough to just reach under the cover to access your pants pockets. Boy, this sounds kinda naughty!

The inside of the kilt has a nice soft material that doesn't bunch up on your pants. The kilt feels a bit bulky when you first use it but it'll become second nature after you use it more than once.

It has a big loop handle that is pretty sturdy so you can hang it to dry (dries pretty quick as well), wipe it off and generally store it when no in use. The loop handle fits over any size door knob as well.

The length from your waist to the bottom is just long enough to completely cover your legs yet not catch on your shoes. The width also covers the side of your legs and doesn't flop around in the wind on the sides. The width also protects your pants from side splashes from passing cars. Also, your legs stay covered when you put your feet down at a stop. Very well designed!

Make sure your wearing suitable shoes that are waterproof if riding in heavy rain. Water will eventually drip down to your shoes. My work boots are waterproof so I don't have any issues in the rain.

I see no reason to not recommend the Scooter Kilt. It's a great product that does what it says. My legs thank me every time I use it. They no longer get cold or wet, just don't forget to pack it when leaving on a warm day! I've done this and at night I open the trunk and a level of dread fills me. I forgot to toss the kilt under the seat. Cold leg punishment going home that night.

And yes, the Prima Scooter Kilt works with a mid-step scooter just fine, like a PCX or ADV. The trim material on the Kilt has yet to leave any scruffs or marks while rubbing/resting on the hump in the middle.

I’m sure that Prima kilt is top-notch but for 25% of the cost, this one is 90% as useful. I’ve had this for years (I call it a “scooter skirt”) and bought another for when it wears out…that was four years ago. It’s great in cooler temperatures but it is also useful in light rain even when it’s warm.

The bib feature is quite important for warmth and wind protection. There are other models on AliExpress that are just skirts - no bib. Not recommended.

When I purchased my SYM CityCom it had these ugly velcro tabs all over the front/inside of the leg shield. I promptly peeled all that ugly velcro off, not realizing what it was for. The seller than informed me he found the Scooter Skirt that went with it but I told him I didn't want it.

My main requirement for leg protection was a small storage footprint. Quick and easy to put on was second. I think the Kilt does what I need of it but the one Tenders linked is a heck of a bargain.
