125 fuel gauge
2008, Stuck on "E"
Took the aft bodywork off.
Pulled float unit.
I'm assuming I should test continuity between BLK and WHT wires? (Not the BLK ground wire)

Re: 125 fuel gauge
Variable resistance between white and black.
No power from black or white coming into float...
Do these scoots have no fuse box?

Re: 125 fuel gauge
When I put 12v to the WHT wire at the gauge, should it peg to FULL? No movement...

Re: 125 fuel gauge
1 fuse next to the battery, and 1 1 amp fuse for the accessory port. I have a 125 cluster handy. Walk me through what you did at the gauge, I'll duplicate it here.

Re: 125 fuel gauge
Fuel gauge has WHT, BLK, and OR wires
Orange is 12v
WHT goes to fuel float
BLK is ground
I connected 12v+ to orange, ground to WHT or BLK, no needle movement, it's stuck on empty.
Seems that you can't buy the gas gauge by itself? Even though it is removable

Re: 125 fuel gauge
If I go positive to orange and ground to black, no movement. If I change the ground to the white wire with a black stripe, the needle moves to full.
My gauge off a 2007 has orange, black and white/black

I'd probably roll the dice with this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/226652814361?_ ... R-CH58_ZZQ

Re: 125 fuel gauge
Thanks for your help!
The problem with replacing the unit is, our 2008 has only 1800 miles, which we'd like to keep
It seems that the gas gauge canNOT be separated from the cluster...
Thanks again

Re: 125 fuel gauge
You're welcome. That cluster is for a 50cc. On a side note, the odometer is pretty easy to change. Gently roll the wheels.

Re: 125 fuel gauge
If you're interested I have a Buddy 125 cluster with a just under 3,500 miles on it I could sell for $50, including s/h.

Re: 125 fuel gauge
Ahhhh. It DOES come apart. No cutting etc required. I will check 2 resistors, and look for visible damage.
I might take you up on your cluster, will let you know

I don't know the resistor color codes. But the right resistor tests INFINITE ohms. I'll guess that's the problem...

Re: 125 fuel gauge
Ordered some resistors from DigiKey on-line, cheaper than running around to find them

Re: 125 fuel gauge
Guessing if you ordered resistors, you figured out the values. If not, here's a handy site to decide them:

I think the gold band delineates tolerance from the expected value.

Re: 125 fuel gauge
Thank you, Yes the gold seems to be the tolerance, will find out this weekend if it works
