I took delivery today of my metro 50cc and was wondering if it's normal that it is a little stiff. I had a vino last year but wasn't new so I don't really know if it's normal or not for a new scooter to feel a little stiff and also to smell a burn odor (not too strong just a little) coming from either the engine or the brakes. When I took it, it had only 2 Km on it.
I am not going fast (max: 35/40 mph) and not a steady speeds in order to properly brake it.
am I doing something wrong? or is it ganna go away with time.
Yeah, I seem to recall a smell (my bud only had half a mile on it when I got it!). It's gone away now or at least I don't notice it. I thought I was burning oil or something, but I checked it like every day or two & there wasn't a change in oil level... so I guess it's normal. Not sure about what is stiff on yours. My suspension is somewhat stiff, but if you're talking about brakes, they will loosen up a bit. I'm no mechanic or anything, I just call it like I see it... hope that helps?

The burning smell is probably the exhaust, i think the burning smell is standard until that paint bakes on there. Smells like melting plastic, right?

Yes exactly, melting plastic...
For the stiffness, I am taking about the suspension... Montreal is, at this time of the year, pot hole city with all the snow we had... but as you said might loosen up a little...
I had that smell for the first couple hundred miles. Standard break-in smell. There are chemicals, paints, sealants, and such that will bake. The smell goes away before the first service comes due.
As for the stiffness, I have no idea. I have a 125 and I never considered my buddy to be overly-stiff in the first place, and I haven't noticed any changes over the first 500 miles. As a technical matter, the Buddy does not come with adjustable shock absorbers or spring rates. While suspension systems sometimes take a while to "settle", the spring and compression rates shouldn't (and probably won't) change.
I have had a Vino 50 and a Buddy 50 and a Buddy 125 - the Buddy is definitely stiffer feeling that the Vino, but I think also has better suspension travel than the Vino over large bumps. The 125 feels slightly stiffer than the 50 as far as the suspension goes, but I like it - they feel better planted to me than the Vino.
From our wonderful Buddy 50 service manual:
ass’ part loose
Whats the PSI in your tires. I think it recommends something like 30lbs, but I find that way too high. I like to keep it in the 28 range for a more comfortable ride.
