Stupid stupid....

The dumb stoplight....wouldn't....turn!! This was the first time I have been stuck at a stoplight for 3 solid circuits! I tried the center stand thing, putting my battery over it, coming at it quickly and stopping as fast as possible over the line. Nothing...Work. My BF and I ended up just running it (thank goodness there was no cop - our place is surrounded by them) And then the other day, I was trying to park in a garage and I wasn't heavy enough to get a ticket out! I'm definitely going to invest in one of those light tripper things, fo' sho'

Legally you can run it after 2 cycles

And if it is a light that you use frequently and you know it won't trip, you can legally go after a reasonable amount of time . You DO have to make a FULL stop (feet in the ground) and then, if it is safe, go. If you ever get a ticket, and you did a full stop, look, go, when you fight it in court they should toss it. That is what they told us on the MSF.

In MN, it is on page 12 of the Motorcycle Manual.

You tried the center stand thing? I'm not sure I understand, but there is no need to use the side/center stands when stopped, just balance yourself with both feet.

Many people have reported that tapping the stand on the loop that sets off the light will make it turn. That's what the OP is talking about.

I've heard mostly negative reviews on those magnets/light tripper things. Might work, probably won't.

I'm with the other posters- I'm guessing that if it's a light that doesn't automatically cycle through each direction, it's not very busy and you can run it after a couple cycles.

I'd check the full legality of that in your state. Chances are you'd never get a ticket for it, but if you did you'd want to know what kind of legal ground you were standing on.

I also know of a few lights (thankfully only turn signals) that don't trip and I just re-route around them when possible.

Krusty, I would be nervous leaving my scooter on its stand at an intersection while I hit a crosswalk button. We're so invisible as it is, I can see someone plowing right over it without ever seeing it. Or it getting jacked, or the light turning green... If it's deserted enough to have time to go do that, I'd just run the stupid light.

I stop directly over the center crack where they put the sensors in (you'll see a big rectangle on the ground), hold the brake, and rev my engine. This has worked on all the lights in my area.

Leaving your bike to run and push a button is a bad idea. You leave the key's in, the criminals come hop on and ride off while you are across the street pressing a button.

Approach your local city or county, depending on which jusidiction is responsible in the area of the light, tell them the issue with the light.

Some cities have already made modifications to the street sensors (crossing pattern) to accomdate motorcycles/scooters.

Dont waste your money (like me) on those stupid magnet light triggers. Yes, most police will not give you a ticket if you CAREFULLY run a non-changing light. If you contact the city traffic engineer about said light they will send someone out to change the loop sensitivity for you scoot.

its not like that in il i got a ticket for running a stop light after i sat there for 20 minutes last year. i fought it in court and the judge said bottom line i ran it.

I did it and got caught once lately

The cop that pulled me over told me just to not take that road anymore

I looked at him like he was a bit crazy

I told him that I take that road FOR THE PROTECTION of that light

He was not amused

and I didn't give a care
