If there's a "Harley Wave", what's the "scoot

A friend of mine bought a Harley a few months ago, and made a lot of the "Harley Wave"; a horizontal motion of the hand to other hog riders that I guess is supposed to say "we're loud, tough and cool"

Do scooters have a "scooter wave"?

I'm going to test drive some Buddy's tomorrow, can't wait!

We just do the Harley wave to everybody on any bike... None of the crotch-rocketers EVER wave. ever. Most of the big bike guys are cool tho. I would definitely be down with makin' a scooter specific wave (if there isn't already one). Never seen anyone on a scooter until this past year, but we are getting more & more every day!

I used to laugh at my friend because now EVERYTHING is Harley, but once I get my scoot, I might have a similar illness..

He said he would ride with me if he could pretend not to know me, so I might follow him around on my scooter , calling his name and waving frantically.

Most of the crotch rockets I see around here are going so fast if they waved they would be road-kill.

I'm constantly amazed at all the beeps and waves I get since I started riding my scooter! It's like I've joined a whole new club or something. I guess in a way, I have.

I see a lot of dudes do the military salute, or make a peace sign or wave with their left arm at a 45 degree angle towards the ground.

I usually nod back, just because I like to be polite and friendly, but I'm used to riding a manual scooter and it's hard to use your clutch hand to steer, as a clutch, as a turn signal, AND to wave. Plus, drivers behind me could misconstrue the low wave as a lazy left turn hand signal (most of my scooters don't have fancy electric turn signals).

Most "real" harley guys and motorcyclists are very cool to anyone on two wheels, only hothead 'nouveau' wanna-be badasses make fun of scooters. They're the ones that crashed three times taking their license test and are riding without a license, so it's probably better they keep their hands on the bars.

Which is almost every motorcyclist in SoFla, it seems because none of them are friendly. But we're not known for our friendliness down here.

Personally, I stand straight up on the floorboards and moon other riders. It rattles them a bit but it's totally worth it.

not to get off subject but about the harley guys...
I have one two doors north & one 3 doors south...
(well, if harley guys includes middle class guys with families that live in quiet neighborhoods - but they both ride nice harleys)
so i was ready to get some sh!t about my 50cc
They both thought it was cool & asked lots of questions

I think it would be nice to have a big novelty Mickey Mouse hand attached to a spring on the top of my helmet, so it would be perpetually waving at everyone! Never even have to take my hand off the wheel!!!

The final instruction in my MSF class was the "secret" wave. According to the instructors, it was two fingers on the left hand waved down at an angle, signifying two wheels down on the road. Works for me and that's the usual response I get around here.

Oh yeah... & the Jeep (wrangler, not the rest) guys have a wave as well

I guess it depends on where you live. Went for a 100 mile ride today and a handful of the the crotch rockets waved. Most of the BMW/Yamaha/Honda crowd did, but not a single wave from Harley. Though one women on a Sportster did give a head nod at a red light

I try to make it a point to try and wave to anybody on 2 wheels* and I've noticed myself missing quite a few that have waved to me. There are too many things to pay attention to while riding (and most, but not all of them are related to operating your scooter/motorcycle) too catch all of the waves.
If you wave and don't get one back, don't take it personal. There's a good chance it's not, but even if it is, you still win because you're still riding and they're still worrying about who's looking.

*-- Two wheels equals- all scooters / motorcycles / bicycles / kids / mopeds / mobility scooters / police / firefighters / cars with one headlight burned out / and street performers. (etc)

I have recently gained the confidence to gesture (I do the Peace fingers out at an angle- but I dont wave them) or Ill just knodd if then sneak up on me (or if they're a big harly dude) and I dont get a chance to flail my arm out in the wind for the full gesture. I also do the "Boyscout" solute to fire engines, police cars/motorcycles, and ambulences. I try not to honk, as I find my horn quite intimidating- I only use it to let the drivers, who are not paying attention, know im there. plain waving seems silly- did it once, got a puzzled reaction,

didnt do it again.
