When to upgrade from the 50cc - 2009 Prospects?

Post by 10gallonhat »

Ok -

I bought a 50cc Scooter last fall and it is serving me well.
At the time, I had no experience riding, no license and felt I needed to park in the bike racks near work.

Now I have a little experience, I passed the MSF course and got my endorsement and I just park with all the motorcycles and not at a bike rack (long story).

My question is - when should make the jump.

My tentative plan is probably at the end of Fall look into to upgrading to 125/150 or maybe a Stella.

But, then I got to thinking - in Minnesota, I can't ride much in the winter anyways, so maybe I should wait and see what the 2009 line has in store.
The Buddy seems pretty solid now - with the new horn and longer mirror stems and I imagine it won't change much for 2009.
I do however wonder if there might new models imported from PGO or other manufactures, etc....

With all the scooter mania happening this year I am basically wondering if anybody thinks Genuine's going to have any Aces up their sleeves for 2009.

Genuine is very tight-lipped about these things and seems to enjoy the rumor and speculation about possible upcoming models. I have heard a lot of rumors ranging from automatic 4-stroke Stellas to some more fantastic conjecture. There's a lot of talk, but we know when we know.

If you're in MN, are happy enough with the 50, and don't plan on riding a lot through the winter, I'd advise waiting for spring. Genuine has traditionally announced new models in late fall and they've started hitting dealers in February and March.

I think that is what I will do... an Automatic 4 Stroke Stella is awfully interesting. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Man, if they really make that Stella it will sell so good! I know I'd buy one. Really, I'm almost considering trading in my Bud for the baby blue Stella @ P'cola Motorsport! I sat on it and I like the fit & feel of much better than my buddy (sorry lil hornet, I still love you)... I don't think they do trade-ins anyways.
