Is there and oil filter on the Buddy 50 (PGO Metro)?

Post by Julius911 »

Hi,

I just bought a PGO Metro 50 (Montreal), and have about 100kms on it. I read thru the manuals and there is no mention of a oil filter...I called a online website and they also mention that 2 stroke engines don't have filters...really? Is this true?

Thanks

Yeah....no oil filter on the 50cc 2 stroke. The oil is burnt with the gas, so make sure you keep your oil reservoir filled. The only other oil in the scoot is in the crank case, which doesn't take much.

The beloved 2-stroke. Very simple to rebuild. Here is some reading on how 2-strokes work if you are interested.

Buy yes the gas and oil mix, so certainly keep up with that....

You still have to fill gear oil in every 2000 miles or so (first 200 miles = first oil change)

That you just unbolt the drain bolt, pitch the old oil at a auto parts store (they take oil for free) and add the correct amount back in with fresh new gear oil.

All you need to do is make sure you have enough oil to burn with your gasoline, and remember to change gear every 2000 or so miles.

I might be sticking my foot in my mouth here, but you want 2-stroke oil, not regular engine oil.

The manual only says

Lubricant: SAE30 (FC class)

So what oil is that??

Thanks

Whatever you do... do not put regular automotive oil (5w30) in the reservoir under the seat. It takes special 2 stroke oil.

+1 on proper 2-stroke oil. And NOT the crap sold in gas stations and auto-parts stores for your weed-wackers and chainsaws.
prefferably full-synthetic, motorcycle oil such as Motul or Bel-Ray. no matter what that manual says.

mixing regular motor-oil (in huge percentages!) into the gas is what people did in the "olden days".
The manual for my '68 SS180 calls for HD-40 at 5% (and 6% on the Berlin!) No one in their right minds would do that today. Instead I use Motul full-syn at 2-2.5% with no ill effects, and don't spit oil out all over the bikes behind me either.

I run Amsoil 2 stroke oil in my jetski's. It is synthetic and has worked great in that application.

We have an oil thread running on the Rattler forum (all the Rattlers are 2 Stroke)
viewtopic.php?t=3931&highlight=oil

you might want to read through it.... several people seem to have favorite oil.

Congrats & welcome to the 2 stroke world
