What is "Kitted"

Post by ScootLemont »

Pardon my ignorance but my Rattler 50 came with a prima pipe, upgraded rollers, weights, and stage 1 jet kit from the dealer.
Does that mean it is "kitted"?

It may be different in the Modern Buddy world.

But with Vespas and Yamahas kitted means an aftermarket cylinder that is larger in size.

But I guess you could call yours kitted, that could be considered a stage one kit.

It's all semantics.

I'd say not kitted, but modded. :)

Eazy's right. "Kitted" usually refers to a cylinder kit. In your case, it would probably be a 70cc kit like this one for your scoot.

Just FYI, the rollers are the weights. Not two different things.

Words like kitted, piped, modded are all kinda used as slang for "tuned" in one way or another. People like to throw around that "stage" term to delineate between levels of tune. But it's completely arbitrary and just a selling term to package performance parts from one particular shop or another. It doesn't accurately correlate between shops. I think it started as stage 1,2 and 3 from some tuning shop decades ago and competition has inflated the numbers over the years.

If you wanted to accurately describe your scoot you could say, 'it has an exhaust upgrade with transmission and carb adjustments'.

But that sounds kinda nerdy compared to "modded." :P
